A server fulfills region and time of interest (RTI) requests for images from multiple users. The server includes a receiver for receiving a RTI request from a user, a processor for assembling a compressed image based on the RTI request, and a transmitter for transmitting the compressed image to the user. The processor is configured to extract a first portion of the compressed image from a local storage device. If the first portion is insufficient to fulfill the RTI request, the processor is configured to request a second portion of the compressed image from another server, and combine the first and second portions of the compressed image to fulfill the RTI request from the user. The compressed image includes an image compressed by a JPEG 2000 compressor.

A camera incorporates a working memory () for storing a working image corresponding to the last captured image. The working image is displayed on a display screen () in a quick review mode of operation in response to a quick review signal entered by the camera operator via a camera control interface () to control processing circuitry () of the camera. The processing circuitry controls the display screen to keep it in an inactive state until the quick review signal is entered, and returns it to an inactive state after a predetermined time period or when the quick review signal is discontinued to conserve energy. In addition, the working image is displayed in the quick review mode regardless of whether a non-volatile memory is available in the camera or, in the case of a hybrid camera, whether a film cartridge is contained in a film chamber () of the camera.

The camera includes a screen suitable for displaying a high resolution version of a stored image from a list of stored images when a location within the list is selected. When a browsing mode is selected, the screen displays a scrolling strip of low resolution versions of stored images from the list. A single control allows a user to select the location within the list and also allows a user to select the browsing mode. The camera can allow a user to move between full screen display of stored images and the browsing mode multiple times, with little repetitive finger and/or hand motion, without blocking viewing of the screen, and while allowing the hands to be retained in a convenient picture taking position.

A method and apparatus for processing digital image data of an image. The digital data is divided up into a plurality of image segments and distributed to at least two image processing units. The image segments each have an overlapping region of the next adjacent image segment. The digital data is manipulated by each of the at least two image processing units at the same time and sent to a print engine interface unit as requested where the image is recombined.

The camera further comprises a user interface which allows a user to select the location within the list, and a structure for displaying on the screen the image within the list corresponding to the selected location.

A convenient and practical apparatus for transporting digital images for display is achieved by incorporating an internally fixed base camera memory into an electronic or hybrid camera. Specifically, a camera includes a digital imaging system (16, 70) for generating a first digital image of first resolution in response to an exposure signal, a first storage memory (124) for receiving and storing the first digital image generated by the digital imaging system, a fixed memory or a removable memory interface connector (130) for receiving a removable memory device, and a processor (120) for controlling the transfer of the first digital image from the first storage memory to the fixed memory or removable memory interface connector for subsequent storage in a removable memory device, when a removable memory device is coupled to the removable memory interface connector. The processor selectively generates a second digital image of a second resolution lower than the first resolution from the first digital image stored in at least one of the first storage memory or a fixed memory or a removable memory device coupled to the removable memory interface connector in response to a display signal. A display screen (36) is provided in the camera for receiving and displaying the second digital image generated by the processor. The second digital image displayed on the display screen is selective stored in a second storage memory (126) in response to a storage signal entered via an operator interface (74). The images stored in the second storage memory constitute album images that remain with the camera until specifically deleted by the camera operator.
