A power system may include a high-speed flywheel connected to an engine of a machine; a battery; a motor-generator unit (MGU) connected to the engine and the battery; and a turbocharger connected to the engine. One or more of the high-speed flywheel, the battery and the MGU, or the turbocharger may be configured to provide supplemental power to power provided by the engine to operate the machine, or provide replacement power when no power is provided by the engine to operate the machine.

Controlling a hybrid power system includes calculating a power system state vector based on energy demand and a stored data array including a matrix defined by a power system hardware configuration. The control further includes producing a power request based on the power system state vector, and varying a flow of energy amongst energy devices using drive linkages in the hybrid power system based on the power request. An exhaust manifold for an internal combustion engine is provided. The manifold comprises at least one first exhaust gas inlet connectable to a first bank of cylinders of the engine, and at least one second exhaust gas inlet connectable to a second bank of cylinders of the engine. First and second exhaust gas outlets are connectable to respective first and second volutes of a twin volute turbocharger. At least one wastegate outlet is connectable to a bypass passage which bypasses the turbocharger. A diverter valve is located within the manifold, wherein the diverter valve is adapted to selectively direct exhaust gas from the first and second inlets to at least one of the first and second exhaust gas outlets and the wastegate outlet. A turbocharger is also provided having the same diverter valve arrangement, as are internal combustion engines having either the manifold or turbocharger, and a vehicle having such an internal combustion engine.

A turbine includes a turbine housing having two gas passages of substantially the same flow area. A nozzle ring is disposed in the housing and around the turbine wheel. The nozzle ring includes first and second outer rings, and an inner ring disposed between the first and second outer rings. First and second pluralities of vanes are disposed between the rings. The second outer ring has a thicker cross section than the first outer ring such that a larger flow area is created between the first outer ring and the inner ring than a flow area created between the second outer ring and the inner ring.

An exhaust system for use with an engine is disclosed. The exhaust system may have a first treatment device configured to receive a flow of exhaust from the engine and convert a first constituent of the exhaust to a second constituent. The exhaust system may also have a second treatment device located downstream of the first treatment device and configured to reduce the first constituent and the second constituent. The exhaust system may further have a flow regulator configured to selectively vary a rate of exhaust passing through the first treatment device, and a controller configured to operate the flow regulator such that a desired amount of the first constituent and the second constituent is received by the second treatment device.

A method of operating an internal combustion engine system includes passing exhaust gases from an engine to an aftertreatment device such as a particulate filter at an exhaust temperature less than a target temperature, and increasing a temperature of exhaust gases passing through the aftertreatment device to the target temperature by controllably restricting exhaust flow upstream the filter. The method still further includes generating a signal indicative of exhaust back pressure and reducing exhaust pressure by selectively reducing airflow to the engine responsive to the signal. An internal combustion engine system and associated control system includes an electronic control unit configured to selectively increase a temperature of exhaust gases passing through a particulate filter to a regeneration temperature via a variable flow restriction device. The electronic control unit is further configured to reduce exhaust pressure upstream the flow restriction device by commanding adjusting an intake airflow control element for the engine responsive to a signal corresponding to exhaust back pressure.
