A motor includes a rotor assembly includes a rotor and a motor shaft secured to the rotor. The motor further includes stator coils. Circuitry of the motor includes electronic components that cooperatively operate to activate and deactivate the coils to cause the rotor assembly to rotate, and first and second power terminals. An electrically conductive outer housing surrounds the motor. An electrically conductive grounding tab is electrically connected to the first power terminal. The tab contacts a radially-inwardly facing surface of the outer housing to provide a electrostatic discharge path from the outer housing to the ground terminal.

Grounding device for brushless electric motor

A diagnostic tool for monitoring a component in a load electrical circuit is provided. The diagnostic tool includes a housing containing a relay, at least one electrical sensor, a computer readable memory and a processor. The relay is configured for selectively open and close the load electrical circuit according to a control electrical circuit. The at least one sensor is configured to measure current and/or voltage in the load electrical circuit and to generate signals corresponding to the electrical load drawn through the load electrical circuit. The processor is in electrical with the sensor or sensors and the computer readable memory for storing data in the computer readable memory corresponding to the signals generated by the sensor.

Electrical diagnostic tool

An outboard marine engine has vapor vent control apparatus including a fuel inlet in fluid communication with a fuel reservoir of the engine. The fuel inlet is operably attachable to a fuel pin of a fuel connector. When attached, liquid fuel flows to the fuel reservoir and when detached, liquid fuel flow out of the fuel inlet is prevented. A vapor vent passage is configured in fluid communication with the liquid fuel reservoir and an air intake of the engine. A vent pin is disposed in the vapor vent passage. The vent pin moves between a first position upon attaching the fuel connector to the fuel inlet and a second position upon detaching the fuel connector from the fuel inlet. In the first position, the vapor vent passage is open to fuel vapor flow and, when in the second position, the vapor vent passage is closed to fuel vapor flow.

Vapor vent control apparatus, system and outboard marine engine therewith

A fuel rail vent system for evacuating air from a fuel rail includes a first fuel reservoir and a first fuel line extending between the first fuel reservoir and the fuel rail. A fuel pump is configured in fluid communication with the first fuel reservoir to pump liquid fuel from the first fuel reservoir to the fuel rail through the first fuel line. A second fuel line separate from the first fuel line extends between the first fuel reservoir and the fuel rail. A primer system is configured for fluid communication with the first fuel reservoir to pump liquid fuel from the first fuel reservoir to the fuel rail through the second fuel line. A second fuel reservoir separate from the first fuel reservoir is configured for fluid communication with the fuel rail downstream of the fuel rail to receive any excess liquid fuel and/or fuel vapor upstream therefrom.

Fuel rail vent system

This invention provides an electric fuel pump tester that allows a technician to simulate the real-life operation of the electrical system of the vehicle, i.e., when the fuel pump is installed. The present invention provides a tester that includes a load that is similar to that of an installed fuel pump. In this manner, a technician may monitor simulated real-life operation of the vehicle's electrical system.

Electrical connector integrity tester

In a fuel supply system, liquid fuel is supplied to a marine engine from a fuel tank (). The fuel first passes through a water filter (), a lift pump () and is temporarily deposited in a vapor separator () where vapors given off from the fuel are collected and vented. A high pressure pump () withdraws liquid fuel from the vapor separator (and delivers it under pressure to an engine injector system () via a fuel delivery line (). The fuel pressure between the high pressure pump () and the engine injector system () is monitored to determine whether the engine injector system () is being presented with more fuel than is required for efficient engine operation. If more fuel than needed is being supplied by the high pressure pump (), the unneeded fuel is returned to the vapor separator () through a bypass line (). A pressure regulator () along the bypass line () prevents the return of fuel to the vapor separator () when the pressure differential between the vapor separator () and the fuel being delivered to the engine injector system () reaches a predetermined value. The bypass line () comprises a short path from the fuel delivery line () and returns fuel back into the vapor separator () without traversing large spaces. The water filter (), lift pump (), vapor separator (), high pressure pump (), by-pass line () and pressure regulator () are contained as an integral unit ().

Marine vapor separator with bypass line

A fuel separator is disclosed having a hollow interior in which a tubular coiled heat exchanger is positioned to receive a coolant liquid therethrough. Fuel is fed into the chamber through a fuel inlet and pumped out of the chamber by a high pressure pump into the fuel distribution system of an internal combustion engine. Heated excess fuel from the fuel distribution system of an internal combustion engine is returned to the chamber through a fuel return inlet at the bottom of the chamber and the heated fuel passes upwardly through the coolant coil thereby cooling the heated return fuel. Fuel vapor that is not condensed as a result of cooling can escape from the chamber through a float needle valve at the top of the chamber. A pressure relief valve is also provided at the top of the chamber to allow the vapor to escape when a predetermined internal pressure is reached.

Fuel vapor separator for internal combustion engine

A fuel transfer apparatus for providing fuel to a vehicle engine from a plurality of fuel tanks. A transfer pump is positioned intermediate a pair of fuel tanks and is operable to transfer fuel therebetween. Fuel is provided to the engine from a first one of the two fuel tanks. Excess fuel is returned to the first one of the two fuel tanks. When the level in the first fuel tank is less than the level in the second fuel tank by a predetermined amount, the transfer pump transfers an amount of fuel from the second fuel tank to the first fuel tank. Fuel level sensors are utilized to monitor the level of fuel in the two fuel tanks and report to a microprocessor which controls the transfer pump. The microprocessor utilized to control the transfer pump may be incorporated into the transfer pump, may be a stand alone microprocessor, or may comprise an existing vehicle circuit board such as, e.g., the electronic control module (ECM). A fuel transfer line interconnects the two tanks and is located above the two tanks.

Fuel transfer pump and control

A fuel filtering system having a valve which prevents the flow of fuel in the absence of a fuel filter. The filtering system includes a housing in which a fuel pump is at least partially disposed. A valve mechanism is located on the discharge side of the fuel pump and includes a valve member which is movable between open and closed positions which, respectively, allow and prevent fluid flow through the fuel line. A biasing member is provided for biasing the valve member into the closed position. The valve member is engaged by the mounting of the fuel filter to thereby open the valve mechanism. In the absence of an installed fuel filter, the valve member remains in the closed position to prevent the flow of unfiltered fuel to the engine.

A fuel transfer apparatus for providing fuel to a vehicle engine from a plurality of fuel tanks. A transfer pump is positioned intermediate a pair of fuel tanks and is operable to transfer fuel therebetween. Fuel is provided to the engine from a first one of the two fuel tanks. Excess fuel is returned to the first one of the two fuel tanks. When the level in the first fuel tank is less than the level in the second fuel tank by a predetermined amount, the transfer pump transfers an amount of fuel from the second fuel tank to the first fuel tank. Fuel level sensors are utilized to monitor the level of fuel in the two fuel tanks and report to a microprocessor which controls the transfer pump. The microprocessor utilized to control the transfer pump may be incorporated into the transfer pump, may be a stand alone microprocessor, or may comprise an existing vehicle circuit board such as, e.g., the electronic control module (ECM). A three-way valve may be incorporated into the transfer pump so that the transfer pump can be additionally utilized to provide a priming feature for an engine driven fuel pump.

A system for transferring fuel from a fuel tank to an engine which allows an optimum water/fuel ratio (i.e., a ratio which will permit the engine to operate substantially normally while disposing of water in the fuel tank) to be transferred to the engine. The apparatus includes a fuel pump having two inlets in fluid communication with the vehicle fuel tank. A hydrophobic filter is associated with one of the inlets and is operative to prohibit water from entering the fuel pump. The inlets are sized to achieve an optimum water/fuel ratio for delivery to an internal combustion engine. In one exemplary embodiment, an adjustable orifice may be associated with the second inlet, such that the water content of the product transferred to the engine may be regulated depending on, e.g., the operational state of the engine.

A water pump (,) is driven by the engine (,) for supplying environmental water to the water inlet (,) of the cooling jacket (,). A pickup (,) is connected to the water pump (,) for supplying environmental marine water to the water pump (,), i.e., the pickup (,) is disposed in the water in which the watercraft is buoyed. The cooling jacket (,) has a water outlet (,) for dumping water from the cooling chamber (,) back to the environmental marine water, i.e., the water outlet (,) is disposed to dump cooling water into the same water in which the watercraft is buoyed.

Water cooled electric fuel pump for marine propulsion

A method of controlling fuel temperature while supplying fuel from a fuel tank (,) to an array (,) of fuel injectors of an internal combustion engine (,) comprising the steps of pumping the fuel with a high pressure pump (,), flowing the fuel through a fuel line (,) from the fuel tank (,) to the high pressure pump (,), and flowing the fuel through a vapor separator (,) in the fuel line (,) between the tank (,) and the high pressure pump (,). The method is characterized by recirculating fuel (,) from the vapor separator (,) to the fuel line (,) for leveling fuel temperatures. The method is more specifically characterized by regulating (,) the pressure at which fuel is recirculated from the vapor separator (,) to the fuel line (,). An assembly for implementing the method includes a unitary housing comprising an upper cap (,) and a lower cap (,) for supporting the filter (,), the low pressure pump (,), the first pressure regulator (,), and the vapor separator (,). A baffle (,) is disposed at the bottom of the vapor separator (,) for separating fuel flow from the low pressure pump (,) on a first side of the baffle (,) from fuel returned by the return line (,) disposed on the second side of the baffle (,). The first pressure regulator (,) and the recirculation line (,) are also disposed on the first side of the baffle (,).

Marine-vapor separator

The assembly comprises a flexible bulb 12 defining a pumping chamber 14 and secured at opposite ends by bands 34 to inlet and outlet housings 26. An inlet check valve 18 is supported by an inlet valve wall 38, which is, in turn, supported in a recess 36 in the inlet housing, to control fuel flow to the pumping chamber 14 while preventing reverse fuel flow out of the pumping chamber 14. An outlet check valve 22 is supported by an outlet valve wall 52 which is, in turn, supported in a recess 36 in the outlet housing for controlling fuel flow from the pumping chamber 14 while preventing reverse flow from the outlet housing into the pumping chamber 14. The assembly is characterized by a pressure relief valve, generally shown at 24, disposed between the inlet and the pumping chamber 14 for allowing fuel under a predetermined pressure in the pumping chamber 14 to reverse flow into the inlet. The opposite ends differ only by the inlet valve wall 38 supporting the relief valve 24.
