An expandable liner is used to re-complete a wellbore for a re-fracturing operation. The expandable liner may be used to cover the old perforations and provide a larger bore after expansion. The larger bore allows the new completion perforations and fracturing operation to be more easily achieved. In one embodiment, an expandable liner an expandable tubular having a threaded connection, wherein the threaded connection includes a groove configured to fail at a predetermined tension load. In another embodiment, the expandable liner may have a rib disposed around an outer diameter of the expandable tubular, wherein the rib is configured to form a seal with the outer tubular.

Expandable liner

In one embodiment, a method of completing a wellbore () includes positioning an expandable tubular having a support layer () disposed on an exterior of the expandable tubular inside a casing (); mechanically expanding the tubular and the support layer, wherein a distance between an outer diameter of the support layer and the inner diameter of the casing is sufficient to prevent burst of the tubular; and hydraulically expanding the support layer into contact with the casing.

An expandable tubular for use in a wellbore includes: a pin formed at a first longitudinal end of the expandable tubular; a box formed at a second longitudinal end of the expandable tubular; a tubular body connecting the pin and the box; and an elastomeric seal disposed in a groove of the box. Each of the pin and box has: a torque shoulder; and a thread. The pin has an asymmetric protrusion formed on an inner surface thereof.

Couplings for expandable tubular

An expansion tool for use in a wellbore includes an expansion surface made up of a concave portion, a convex portion and a straight section therebetween. The straight section is formed according to a formula Y=(1.26)(X)&#x2212;0.13, where X is the wall thickness of a tubular and Y is the length of the straight section. The concave portion and the convex portion have an arc length extending the concave portion to a trailing edge of the tool. The concave and convex portions are radius-shaped. The arrangement of the shapes and their relation to each other reduces relatively high and low contact pressures and lessens the effects of axial bending in a tubular or a connection.

Methods and apparatus relating to expansion tools for tubular strings

A method and apparatus for a testing facility for simulating downhole conditions is provided. The testing facility may include a test bench for expanding tubular members having one or more threaded connections. The test bench may also be operable to simulate the expansion of a tubular connection downhole and to produce expanded tubular connection test samples.

The present invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for protecting tubular connections. In one aspect, an expandable tubular connection for use in a wellbore is provided. The tubular connection includes a tubular pin member. The tubular connection also includes a tubular box member having an end portion, wherein the tubular pin member is matable with the tubular box member to form the tubular connection. Additionally, the tubular connection includes a sleeve member disposed on the tubular pin member, wherein the sleeve member is configured to substantially protect the end portion of the tubular box member as the tubular connection is lowered into the wellbore. In yet a further aspect, a method for utilizing a tubular connection in a wellbore is provided.

Apparatus and methods to protect connections

A threaded and coupled connector with tapered threads having equivalent heights (same height on pin and box threads), negative load flanks, biased tapered thread forms with a torque shoulder formed by pin noses that abut at a central point within a coupling constructed from standard coupling stock. The connection design meets the internal/external pressure performance requirements of industry standards with capabilities equal to or exceeding those of 'premium' connections, with a coupling constructed from thin walled coupling stock.

Methods and connections for coupled pipe

Lubricant escape passages are formed in the threads used to connect one tubular body to another. The passages conduct trapped thread lubricant out of the threaded area to prevent the creation of high lubricant pressure that may damage or cause improper make up of the threaded connection. The passages may be grooves in the crests of the thread teeth and/or may be corner bevels on the thread teeth. In a conductor pipe or other pipe assembly using axially spaced internal and external seals at each axial end of the threaded area, the escape passages form a helical flow path through the engaged thread area. The external seal prevents the entry of corrosive fluids into the threaded area and the internal seal prevents leakage through the threaded area from within the conductor pipe. When the lubricant pressure increases excessively during assembly or impact loading of the connection, the lubricant escapes past the seals to prevent connection damage. When used with a wedge or other metal-to-metal thread engaging designs, the escape passages may be interrupted at some point intermediate their helical path to provide a pressure seal at the point of interruption. Relieving trapped lubricant from a wedge thread connection permits consistent final makeup positions that ensure optimal pressure sealing.

A corrosion-resistant threaded connection including a first tubular member having an outer metal tube of corrosion-prone material and an inner metal lining of corrosion-resistant material, the first tubular member forming a first pin connection having a nose portion comprising a ring of corrosion-resistant material secured, e.g., welded, to the tube of corrosion-prone material, a radially outwardly facing, annularly extending thread-free first pin shoulder being formed on the corrosion-resistant ring, the first member including an externally threaded portion providing male threads, and a second tubular member comprising a metal coupling having a first end and a second end and forming a first box connection and a second box connection, respectively, the coupling including an internally disposed annularly extending metal section of corrosion-resistant material disposed intermediate the ends of the coupling, each of the box connections comprising a radially inwardly facing, annularly extending box shoulder formed on the section of corrosion-resistant material, each of the box connections further including a threaded female portion having threads complementary to the male threads, the pin and box shoulders being sized and configured such that when respective ones of the first pin connections are threadedly received in the first and second box connections, the pin and box shoulders are in metal-to-metal sealing engagement.

Threaded connection for internally clad pipe

The threaded connection between the pin and the box ends of two pipes is sealed externally and internally to protect the threads in the connection from exposure to corrosive fluids. Seals are provided at each axial end of the threads. The external seals may be formed by metal-to-metal engagement between the pin and box or may be provided by an annular, elastomeric ring engaging the pin and box of the connection. A threaded compression ring may be used to compress the elastomeric seal between the pin and box. The seals protect dynamically loaded threaded connections from fatigue-induced failure in corrosive environments.
