A press frame for attaching connectors to workpieces such as cables and pipes is described. The press frame is adapted to be releasably attached to a hand-held, battery powered press tool. The press frame includes selectively interchangeable components that enable a wide range of different styles, sizes, and configurations of electrical connectors to be attached to cables.

An identification attachment is provided for a compression tool of the character having a pair of jawarms pivotally mounted between a pair of side plates by pivot pins having outer ends including pin retainers for maintaining the jawarms and side plates in assembled relationship. The jawarms have opposite sides, inner and outer edges and front and rear ends, respectively forwardly and rearwardly of the side plates, and the identification attachment is removably mountable on the tool independent of any mounting openings for the attachment extending through the jawarms. The attachment may, for example, interengage with opposite sides of a jawarm or be captured on the tool by the pin retainers or the side plates.

Dual operation crimp and press jawset

A jawset for crimping and punching an associated clamping workpiece has a pair of spaced apart side plates, a pair of pivot pins holding a pair of jawarms between the side plates, tooth members formed on the jawarms to crimp an associated clamp ring workpiece in a first direction, and a punch member slidable in the jawset relative to the jawarms to punch the associated workpiece in a second direction transverse the first direction. In one form, a timing disk is provided extending between the jawarms and through the slidable punch member. A biasing member is provided for urging the jawarms in an opening direction opposite the crimping direction. A workpiece alignment area is defined by a region of the spaced apart side plates for enabling relative alignment between the jawset and the associated workpiece. In a further embodiment, a pair of auxiliary side plates are carried adjacent ruggedized side plates for enabling an alignment area without adding undue weight or cost to the jawset. In a further embodiment, the jawarms are provided with stop members forward of the pivot pins including inwardly directed abutment surfaces for controlling a closure amount of the tooth members during the crimping operation. Still further, the punch member selectively provides both a hard stop during the crimping operation as well as a movable punch during the pressing operation based on a relative size of the workpiece.

Roll grooving apparatus for rolling a circumferential groove in a pipe comprises a first support rotatably supporting a first grooving roll, a second support rotatably supporting a second grooving roll and being displaceable relative to the first support for displacing the second grooving roll toward and away from said first grooving roll, a stabilizer on the first support for stabilizing a pipe to be roll grooved, and first and second guards pivotally mounted on the second support for displacement therewith. The first guard engages the stabilizer, the second guard engages a pipe being roll grooved during a roll grooving operation and each guard is spring biased to engage the corresponding one of the stabilizer and a pipe being roll grooved. A member on the first support engages and displaces the second guard away from a pipe which has been roll grooved when the second support is displaced to move the second grooving roll away from the first grooving rolls.
