Disclosed herein is a foamed composition comprising 55 to 98 wt. % of polyamide, and 2 to 45 wt. % of ionomer comprising a zinc neutralized ethylene acid copolymer. The zinc neutralized ethylene acid copolymer is the polymerized reaction product of ethylene monomer, monocarboxylic acid monomer, and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer, and 30 to 70 mole percent of total acid units of the ionomer are neutralized.

Polyamide foam preparation

An ionomer may include a neutralized blend of an ethylene acid copolymer and an aliphatic, mono-functional organic acid. The ethylene acid copolymer may be the polymerized reaction product of: ethylene, alkyl acrylate; optionally monocarboxylic acid monomer; and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer. Another ionomer may include a neutralized blend of a first ethylene acid copolymer, a second ethylene acid copolymer, and an aliphatic, mono-functional organic acid. The first ethylene acid copolymer may be the polymerized reaction product of ethylene; monocarboxylic acid monomer; and optionally alkyl acrylate. The second ethylene acid copolymer may be the polymerized reaction product of: ethylene; alkyl acrylate; and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer. Either blend may comprise from 5 to 40 wt. % of the aliphatic, mono-functional organic acid. At least 30 mole percent of total acid units of either blend may be neutralized with a magnesium cation of the magnesium neutralizing salt.

Ionomers of ethylene acid copolymers with enhanced creep resistance

According to one embodiment, an ionomer includes a neutralized blend of an ethylene acid copolymer. The ethylene acid copolymer comprises the polymerized reaction product of ethylene; from 2 to 20 wt. % of monocarboxylic acid monomer based on the total wt. % of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer; from 2 to 15 wt. % of unsaturated dicarboxylic acid monomer based on the total wt. % of the monomers present in the ethylene acid copolymer. In the ionomer 10 to 60% of total acid units of the ethylene acid copolymer are neutralized by a magnesium cation.

An aqueous ionomer dispersion, and method of manufacturing thereof, comprising an ionomer composition and water, wherein the ionomer composition comprises: a) at least 20 wt. %, based on the total weight percent of the ionomer composition, of an ionomer; and b) up to 80 wt. %, based on the total weight percent of the ionomer composition, of a polyolefin.
