Aqueous coating compositions containing (1) a first polymer containing reactive functional groups with a selected level of carboxylic acid functionality and (2) a polyfunctional crosslinker agent containing functional groups that are reactive with appropriate functional groups of the first polymer, are disclosed. The two-component polymer compositions provide a combination of durability and ready removability of the final coating after curing. Two-component polymer compositions based on the first polymer containing hydroxyl functionality in addition to carboxylic acid functionality and use of a polyisocyanate as the polyfunctional crosslinker agent are especially useful as floor polish compositions.

Two-component coating composition and method of preparation

A method for extending the open time of an aqueous coating composition is provided. This method extends the time during which an aqueous coating can be applied or rebrushed without damaging the film. The open time improvement of this invention is useful for a variety of coatings including paints, stains, varnishes, adhesives and inks. The improvement in open time comes from the addition of an aqueous polyurethane dispersion to an aqueous coating composition having at least one film-forming latex polymer, where the glass transition temperature of the polyurethane dispersion is less than that of the latex polymer.

Method for increasing the open time of aqueous coatings

Metal-free polymer compositions are disclosed which contain selectively swellable emulsion polymer functionalities and which are cross-linked before film formation to an extent that still allows the polymers to form a film upon application, which film is removable with a stripper solution containing swellant for the polymer functionality. When the polymers are formulated into sacrificial coatings, the polishes produce detergent resistant and removable finishes.

Metal free emulsion polymers for high performance aqueous coatings

Acid-functional polymer is reacted with a transition metal compound at a temperature above the T.sub.g of the polymer to produce crosslinked polymer. The process produces a liquid polymer product that dries to a crosslinked film without the required presence of volatile ligands. Improved coating such as floor polishes are also disclosed.

Transition metal crosslinking of acid-containing polymers

Acid-functional polymer is reacted with a transition metal compound at a temperature above a T.sub.g of the polymer to produce crosslinked polymer. The process produces a liquid polymer product that dries to a crosslinked film without the required presence of volatile ligands. Improved coatings such as floor polishes are also disclosed.

A substantially anhydrous cell comprising an anode, a polyacetylene film or foam cathode, an electrolyte capable of .rho.-doping the cathode, and an organic solvent for said electrolyte, said polyacetylene cathode being insoluble in said solvent when said cathode is either undoped or .rho.-doped, said solvent being stable to electrochemical decomposition, and said anode and said solvent being substantially inert to one another.

A substantially anhydrous cell comprising an anode, a cathode comprising a mixture of polyacetylene and an electrically conductive material, said conductive material being present in an amount of from about 5% to about 75%, based on the total weight of the cathode, an electrolyte capable of p-doping said cathode, and an organic solvent for said electrolyte, said cathode being insoluble in said solvent when said cathode is either undoped or p-doped, said solvent being stable to electrochemical decomposition, and said anode and said solvent being substantially inert to one another.

Stable high drain battery

A high energy density substantially anhydrous cell comprises a cathode which comprises a mixture of polyacetylene powder and an electrically conductive material, an organic solvent, an electrolyte comprising a salt which is soluble in the organic solvent and an inorganic intercalating anode. The anode preferably has a potential less than about +1.3 V with respect to Li.sup.+ /Li.degree. and the anions of the electrolyte salt are capable of p-doping the polyacetylene when an external electrical power source is supplied to the cell. The cathode itself is insoluble in the electrolyte solvent when the cathode is undoped or p-doped and the electrolyte solvent is stable to electrochemical decomposition.

Rechargeable cell

A process for the production of a zero valent metal from an aqueous solution of a salt of the metal comprises contacting the solution with polyacetylene for a period of time sufficient to reduce at least a portion of the metal salt to a zero valent metal while leaving the polyacetylene in a substantially non-doped state. The metal salt has a reduction potential of about +0.5V or greater.
