An ophthalmic slit lamp is modified by adding a laser to it to be used for microsurgery. The laser is mounted on the lamp so its beam is projected into the eye along one axis while the normal viewing image generated by the lamp is focused into the eye from another angle. An aiming image is focused into the eye coincidentally with the laser beam so that the distance between the two images and their relative position may be determined by their apparent positions as seen from the viewing binoculars of the lamp.

Laser ophthalmic surgical system

An aiming beam coincident with a laser beam is provided in a modified slit-lamp apparatus. The aiming beam is resolved into a number of images displaced with respect to the axis of the slit lamp imaging rays bracketing the intersection of the laser beam and the axis of slit lamp rays, which intersection is their common focus. As the common focus is moved close to a target tissue within the eye, the target tissue to be treated renders each of the images successively sharply visible while the other images remain blurry or not visible. Thus an efficient rough or long-range system is provided for focusing the laser on the target tissue.

A reliable, low cost, light weight, CW pumped Nd:YAG laser with optional Q-switching is provided with a rail for the laser optics that isolates the optical axis from movement of the laser head housing. A laser pot is provided with a housing and quickly detachable cover both molded of a resin that is impervious to water, optically opaque, possesses low thermal deformation, high dielectric strength and resistance to damage by light and UV radiation. The pot is formed with a cavity lined by molded reflectors and divided by a septum interposed between the laser rod and lamp. The lamp is removable with the cover and is readily coupled with the lamp sockets designed for accepting variations in lamp manufacturing tolerances. The power supply for the laser resonator is transformerless and parallel triggering is employed for the lamp. The cooling system is provided with a water immersed heat exchanger defined by a coated copper tube that prevents ionic action.

YAG Laser system

A laser system is disclosed for facilitating transient surface heating and/or melting and regrowth of amorphous, polycrystalline or imperfect crystalline semiconductor wafer material. This system also has specific application to gettering of impurities and the annealing-out of defects within a semiconductor wafer. In the system, a number of circular target-wafers are arranged around the periphery of a turntable. The turntable rotates while a simple, slow-moving beam-delivery system moves radially with respect to the turntable delivering a helical scan which may also be in the form of a multiple-track. Use of the turntable with a multiple wafer load allows efficient batch-processing. Blocking masks may be employed when it is desired to irradiate only selected areas of the semiconductor substrates.

Method and apparatus for laser irradiating semiconductor material

A portable bee-hive scale includes a housing, a power source, and a probe having a tongue extending from one end of the probe which is adapted to be removably inserted at predetermined locations in a bee-hive. The probe is designed to respond to the placement of weight on the tongue and a gauge is electrically connected to the probe to read the response. The reading is electrically stored and displayed.
