An electronic distance recorder configured to be coupled to a wheel hub of a vehicle, the electronic distance recorder comprising: means for determining distance travelled by the vehicle; means for storing a current vehicle odometer value; means for accruing the current vehicle odometer value based on the distance travelled by the vehicle; a receiver for receiving license data representative of a vehicle license issued for the vehicle; and an electronic display configured to display an indication of the validity of the vehicle license. Vehicle information recorders, communication devices and power generators are also disclosed.

A method of assisting a user of a personal navigation device with automatically selecting a route after the personal navigation device transitions from driving mode to walking mode includes detecting a mode transition in the personal navigation device from driving mode to walking mode, recording a vehicle location where the mode transition from driving mode to walking mode occurs, receiving a request from the user to create navigation instructions to a destination location, determining a distance from the current location to the destination location, and guiding the user back to the vehicle location by providing walking instructions with the personal navigation device when the distance from the current location to the destination location is greater than or equal to a threshold distance and then guiding the user to the destination location by providing driving instructions with the personal navigation device.

Methods of assisting a user with selecting a route after a personal navigation device transitions from driving mode to walking mode

A method of assisting a user of a personal navigation device with parking nearby a destination location includes receiving instructions from the user to create navigation instructions to the destination location, determining that the destination location is in an urban area, querying whether the user requires parking, and presenting a plurality of nearby parking areas to the user when the user requests parking, receiving the user's choice of a selected parking area from the plurality of nearby parking areas presented to the user, and planning a route to the destination location using the selected parking area as an intermediate destination.

Method of assisting a user of a personal navigation device with parking nearby a destination location and related personal navigation device

A method of displaying points of interest in a personal navigation device includes displaying a map on a display of the personal navigation device, receiving touch input at a touched position of the display, displaying points of interest located near the touched position, wherein the points of interest are represented by icons, each icon being connected to its location on the map with a line extending out from the touched position, and spreading out the icons around the touched position to separate the icons from each other, the spread out icons being displayed in a pattern around the touched position, wherein a length of the line connecting each icon to its location on the map is not directly proportional to a distance from the corresponding point of interest to the touched position.

Method of spreading out and displaying closely located points of interest on a personal navigation device

A navigation device capable of displaying the public transportation service and method thereof are disclosed. The navigation device comprises a navigation module and a map database. The map database is for storing at least one digital map and the frequency of runs and the route forming the at least one public transportation service. The navigation module is for providing a navigation function and displaying the digital map and the route forming the public transportation service on the digital map for indication. The route is displayed by a different color, a different shape of the icon, or a different level of transparency, for the public transportation service having different frequency of runs.
