A movement compensation system is described herein that compensates a user interface and received touch input based on detected external motion affecting a mobile computing device. The system uses the integration of accelerometer data to either offset screen rendering or adjust screen size to improve readability. The system may also improve touch target selection by offsetting received touch coordinates to compensate for device shifting. Offsets can be applied to either the screen rendering offset or can be applied to the touch coordinate input. The system may increase font size or the size of other user interface elements in response to detecting external motion. The system may also receive tuning parameters to account for device mass, dampening filters on accelerometer integrations, latency effects, and user responsiveness to motion effects. Thus, the system allows users to continue to use devices under high motion environmental conditions.

Motion effect reduction for displays and touch input

In embodiments of portable device pairing with a tracking system, a pairing system includes a portable device that generates device acceleration gesture data responsive to a series of motion gestures of the portable device. The pairing system also includes a tracking system that is configured for pairing with the portable device. The tracking system recognizes the series of motion gestures of the portable device and generates tracked object position gesture data. A pairing service can then determine that the series of motion gestures of the portable device corresponds to the series of motion gestures recognized by the tracking system, and communicate a pairing match notification to both the tracking system and the portable device to establish the pairing.

Systems and methods are described for providing a standard list function to create a graphical user interface list and list manager while allowing the graphical user interface to vary by appearance. An application developer can include a list manager control in an application. Properties are set that link the list manager to display controls, a data source and a scrolling behavior source. The list manager provides the appropriate content to the display controls in response to user selections of the display controls. The display controls and a user interface that contains them may vary without altering the basic functionality of the list manager.

Systems and methods for creating and managing graphical user interface lists

Methods and arrangements are provided that allow for a gradual visual correction between a user's input and a selected object within a graphical user interface (GUI) environment. For example, if an offset exists between a user's input and an object's preferred contact area, then, as the user manipulates the object (e.g., moves the object within the GUI environment) the magnitude of the offset is selectively and incrementally altered in a manner that is nearly imperceptible to the user. This corrective process is continued, until the user's input and the object's preferred contact area falls within a defined tolerance. Consequently, the correction process tends to be more pleasing and in some instances more realistic than an immediate correction or maintenance of a continued offset.

Methods and arrangements for selective placement of movable objects within a graphical user interface

Systems and methods are described for scaling a graphical user interface (GUI) to fit proportionally in displays of different sizes. Bounds of display objects to be displayed in the graphical user interface are defined in terms of position relative to horizontal and vertical dimensions of a display on which the GUI is rendered. An application defines the GUI in relative terms, but an end user may alter the look and feel of controls in the GUI. A tiered sizing schema is described that provides size constraints for display objects. The end user is limited as to how much a size of a display object can be altered in order to preserve the integrity of the original specifications of the GUI when the GUI is displayed on displays of various dimensions.

Systems and methods for scaling a graphical user interface according to display dimensions and using a tiered sizing schema to define display objects

Improved methods and arrangements provide user interface platforms that are capable of meeting the unique requirements of manufacturers, while also advantageously supporting the development of independently designed software applications. In accordance with certain aspects of the present invention, methods and arrangements are provided whereby certain key events are defined and operatively associated with the hardware suite. These key events, which are essentially virtual events, can be invoked or otherwise implemented by the manufacturers and independent software vendor (ISV) applications. These key events are categorized as being either determinate events or indeterminate events, and their functionality can be based on different behavior models. The behavior models consider the notion that the user interface will most likely include various focusing (e.g., function selection) and/or editing (e.g., parameter modifying) capabilities. As such, the methods and arrangements can support several different behavior models, including, for example, a full-focus mode, a focus-free mode, and an edit-free mode.

Methods and arrangements for interacting with controllable objects within a graphical user interface environment using various input mechanisms

The described embodiments present methods and systems for manipulating user interface (UI) controls after the controls have been designed by a control designer. Flexibility is provided through an inventive architecture that employs style class objects that are programmed or programmable to manipulate the appearance and/or behavior of the controls. Various themes can also be employed to manipulate the appearance of controls across the system in a uniform, standardized manner. Manipulation of the controls can thus take place at run time and on a system wide basis, e.g. across multiple applications. The inventive systems and methods can be employed in the context of third parties such as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to provide the ability to &ldquo;brand&rdquo; products, e.g. consumer embedded products.
