An adjustable bed having mattress supporting portions for supporting a mattress for an occupant and in a variety of positions, a base frame for supporting the mattress supporting portions, and position controlling mechanism operatively interconnecting the mattress supporting portions and the base frame. The position controlling mechanism comprises an upper frame operatively connected with the mattress supporting portions for moving the portions relative to one another, lifting arms operatively connecting the upper frame and the base frame, and a plurality of drive motors operatively connected with the upper frame and with the lifting arms for moving the upper frame and the lifting arms and thereby positioning the mattress supporting portions in the desired positions. The operation of the position controlling mechanism is such that the portions of the bed may be moved both vertically and angularly through raised and lowered horizontal positions, Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg positions, headlift and seated positions. Movement to and from headlift positions is accomplished with coordinated translation of the mattress supporting portions so as to move the head of an occupant essentially directly vertically rather than arcuately. A foot drop position approximating vertical is available so as to accommodate seated positioning of an occupant.

Adjustable bed

A medical power service column for use in a hospital room for supplying electrical power, lighting and gases and also for providing a centralized support for medical equipment. The medical column comprises a lower column section having an upper end and a lower end in contact with the floor of the hospital room, a see-through section having a first end attached to the upper end of the lower column section for providing increased visibility in the hospital room and a second end extending upward toward the ceiling of the hospital room, and an upper column section attached to the second end of the see-through section for supplying room lighting for the hospital room.

Hospital bed

A fitted bed sheet is adapted for use with a relatively thin mattress having cutaway corners. The fitted sheet is formed from a blank of sheet material to have corner pockets that easily fit over the mattress corners. In particular embodiments the sheet is formed from the blank by a series of folding operations and is then stitched at the corner pockets to complete the sheet. The resulting fitted sheet may be ironed in conventional flat-ironing machines and may be folded into a compact form by an automatic folding machine.

Fitted bed sheet and method of manufacture

A table is provided for use in association with a bed including a base member, a tubular support column and a table top. The support column includes an upper tubular portion telescopically mounted over a lower tubular portion; a locking spring mechanism for maintaining upward tension against the upper portion; release means for overcoming the spring mechanism to permit lowering of the upper portion; and means to permit the table top to horizontally pivot a pre-determined amount relative to the support column and be locked in a fixed position. The table top is mounted to the support column, in cantilever fashion, and includes a mirror recessed in the table top.

Overbed table

A mattress assembly and system adapted for specialized use where bending is required and comprising a top pad formed of two layers of relatively soft foamed plastic between which a load-distributing mesh sheet is bonded to also secure said layers together, in combination with a bottom pad of much firmer foamed plastic coextensive with and underlying the top pad and capable of preventing the assembly and system of pads from bottoming-out. The bottom pad also is connected to the top pad in a manner to prevent relative longitudinal movement therebetween, especially when the assembly and system are bent at localized locations incident to the mattress support on a bed being similarly bent such as in hospital use and in domestic convertible sofas.
