A medical implant apparatus for total elbow arthroplasty is provided. The apparatus includes: a first rod member comprising a first nut, an eye hook, a first end, and a second end, wherein the first nut is disposed at the first end and the eye hook is disposed at the second end; a second rod member rotatably coupled to the first rod member, the second rod member comprising a first linear portion, a second linear portion, and an arcuate portion disposed between the first linear portion and the second linear portion, the arcuate portion being configured to form a predetermined angle between the first rod member and the second rod member; a positioning nut coupled to the first linear portion of the second rod member; and an aperture disposed in the eye hook.

Total elbow arthroplasty apparatus and method

An encasement for coating a bone plate with a substrate includes a sidewall structure having an upper edge and a cover disposed on the upper edge of the sidewall structure. The encasement includes a base from which the sidewall structure rises such that the sidewall structure, the cover and the base combine to create an open interior space of the encasement. An aperture in the sidewall structure provides access to the open interior space of the encasement and a plurality of cover protrusions extend from the cover into the open interior space. The encasement further includes a plurality of base protrusions extending from the base directly opposing the plurality of cover protrusions. A combined height of an individual cover protrusion and an opposing base protrusion is less than or equal to a height of the sidewall structure.

A method of calibrating glucose monitor data includes collecting the glucose monitor data over a period of time at predetermined intervals. It also includes obtaining at least two reference glucose values from a reference source that temporally correspond with the glucose monitor data obtained at the predetermined intervals. Also included is calculating the calibration characteristics using the reference glucose values and corresponding glucose monitor data to regress the obtained glucose monitor data. And, calibrating the obtained glucose monitor data using the calibration characteristics is included. In preferred embodiments, the reference source is a blood glucose meter, and the at least two reference glucose values are obtained from blood tests. In additional embodiments, calculation of the calibration characteristics includes linear regression and, in particular embodiments, least squares linear regression. Alternatively, calculation of the calibration characteristics includes non-linear regression. Data integrity may be verified and the data may be filtered.

A closed loop system or semi-closed loop system for infusing insulin using sensor values applies a redundant sensor system as a fail-safe method against sensor failure. The redundant glucose sensors are used corroborate each other and a failing sensor is detected if the sensors no longer corroborate each other. The use of redundant sensors has the additional benefit of producing better sensor signals compared to the use of a single sensor.

The at least one sensor is operatively coupled to a body of a user to monitor the at least one user body characteristic while the user is operating an automobile. At least one transmitter is operatively coupled to the at least one sensor to communicate sensor data obtained from the at least one sensor while the user is operating the automobile. Automobile electronics are operatively coupled to the at least one transmitter to receive sensor data from the at least one sensor while the user is operating the automobile. The automobile electronics provide the sensor data to the user while the user is operating the automobile. A mobile telephone is operatively coupled to the automobile electronics, wherein the automobile electronics initiate a communication via the mobile telephone based on the sensor data received from the at least one sensor.

Automobile physiological monitoring system and method for using the same

An automobile monitoring system to monitor user body characteristics includes at least one sensor to monitor at least one user body characteristic. The at least one sensor is operatively coupled to a body of a user to monitor the at least one user body characteristic while the user is operating an automobile. The at least one user body characteristic is at least a glucose level of the user's body. At least one transmitter is operatively coupled to the at least one sensor to communicate sensor data obtained from the at least one sensor while the user is operating the automobile. Automobile electronics are operatively coupled to the at least one transmitter to receive sensor data from the at least one sensor while the user is operating the automobile. The automobile electronics provide the sensor data to the user while the user is operating the automobile. A global positioning system (GPS) is operatively coupled to the automobile electronics to determine a current location of the user. The automobile electronics limit the user from operating the automobile to travel beyond a distance based on the sensor data received from the at least one sensor.

A method and program prevents a user from bypassing a limit placed on a specified operating life of a sensor by disconnecting and reconnecting the sensor. The present invention checks a characteristic of the sensor to see if the sensor is used prior to the connection of the sensor, and rejects the sensor if the sensor is determined to have been used before. The process of checking the characteristic of the sensor involves performing an Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) procedure and calculating an impedance value. The impedance value can be compared to various threshold values for a variety of purposes including the determination of age, condition, hydration, and stabilization of the sensor.

A method and system of detecting a disease state in a targeted organ is described using nuclear medicine techniques. In preferred embodiments, a radiotracer with specific uptake for diseased portions of the targeted organ is administered to a patient. A gamma ray counter with at least one gamma ray detector is used to count gamma rays emitted by the radiotracer. By placing the gamma ray detector over the location of the targeted organ, the gamma ray counter can provide a quick yes or no answer on whether the disease state exists in the targeted organ.

In accordance with the present invention, a method and system of communal purchasing is disclosed. The preferred embodiments describe a community purchase model where a product can be purchased a particular price only if enough buyers are willing to purchase at that price. Therefore, a fixed 'discount' price is used to collect a number of buys, wherein the number of buys is recorded in a specific product record and the transaction to purchase the product is consummated if the number of buys for the product reaches a minimum number of buys. Moreover, further embodiments obtain a pre-payment or a guarantee for payment for the product while collecting buys for the product. In addition, further embodiments set a cutoff date by when the number of buys must reach the number of minimum number of buys or cancel the product purchase if the cutoff date has been reached and the number of buys for the product associated with the product record does not reach the minimum number of buys.
