An aqueous dispersion containing BIT and IPBC prepared using nonionic and anionic surfactants exhibits both chemical and physical stability and is suitable for use as a single product which is capable of imparting to a coating composition a high level of resistance against attack by a broad spectrum of organisms, including bacteria, fungi and algae, in both the wet-state and dry film-state.

An aerosol dispenser assembly is disclosed that includes a container holding a liquid product and a compressed gas propellant for propelling the liquid product from the container. A design methodology for the actuator body and swirl nozzle insert is disclosed for maintaining a small particle size or Sauter Mean Diameter (D[3, 2]) of less than 48 &#x3bc;m at a suitable spray rate (1.5-2 g/s), while utilizing a compressed gas VOC-free propellant for an air freshener product. As obtaining reduced particle size to compete with LPG propellants may result in a reduced spray rate, it is anticipated that one or more nozzles may be designed into the actuator body to maintain a suitable spray rate.

Aerosol dispenser assembly having VOC-free propellant and dispensing mechanism therefor

A composition for solvating one or more active agents in an aqueous solution which is suitable for dispensing as a compressed gas aerosol composition is disclosed. The composition includes at least one surfactant, at least one active agent (such as a fragrance or an insecticide), and a compressed gas propellant. The at least one surfactant is preferably present in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 3 wt. %. The at least one active agent is preferably present in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 2 wt. %. The compressed gas propellant is preferably present in an amount from about 0.1 wt. % to about 1 wt. %. The total surfactant weight to active agent weight ratio for the composition is preferably about 1:3 to 5:1. The composition uses a reduced amount of surfactant and active agent thereby allowing for a more efficient active agent loading and a reduced stickiness or tackiness on surfaces contacted during use.

An air treating composition for eliminating airborne malodors and/or sanitizing air in combination with a spray valve and actuator and spray performance parameters providing maximum dispersion of the composition is disclosed. The particles of the composition are small so that the active component is dispersed into air as a fine dispersion to provide more contact with malodors and to provide quick absorption of malodors and/or bacteria. The particle size of the composition is controlled through the valve and actuator dimensions, as well as the formulation requirements of the composition. The air treating composition includes water, a low molecular weight polyol, and a propellant. The composition may also include one or more adjuvants such as an emulsifier, a co-solvent, a fragrance, a corrosion inhibitor, a pH adjusting agent and the like.

Composition and aerosol spray dispenser for eliminating odors in air

Certain surfactants suitable for use alone to dissolve a water-insoluble component in compositions is described for providing VOC-free compressed gas aerosol compositions. The compositions include water-insoluble component(s), a surfactant and water. The water-insoluble component(s) can be active agent(s), such as fragrance(s) and/or an insecticide(s). The surfactant is present as a single surfactant which, in the absence of a solvent, dissolves or disperses the water-insoluble component(s) and provides a homogenous blend in water which provides a stable compressed gas emulsion. The surfactant is an anionic surfactant or a nonionic surfactant, in particular nonionic alkylpolyglycosides; nonionic cocoglucoside; nonionic alkylene oxide extended chain alkylpolyglycosides; anionic sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), nonionic C-Coxoalcohol ethoxylate with 8 ethylene oxides (EO), nonionic C-Csecondary alcohol ethoxylate with 7EO or 12EO, polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogenated castor oil wherein the PEG is PEG-60 or PEG-40, polyglyceryl-10 laurate and polyglyceryl-6 caprylate.

The particles of the composition are small so that the active component is dispersed into air as a fine dispersion to provide more contact with odors and to provide quick absorption of odors. The particle size of the composition is controlled through the selection of valve and actuator dimensions. The air treating and odor eliminating composition of the invention includes water, a low molecular weight polyol, an emulsifier, and a propellant. The composition may also include additional adjuvants such as solvent(s), fragrance(s), corrosion inhibitor, pH adjustor and the like.

VOC-free compressed gas aerosol compositions

A high volume piezoelectric atomizer for use with common consumer spray products is disclosed. The piezoelectric atomizer may include an actuator, a substrate and a supply of a liquid product to be dispensed. The substrate may include a plurality of tapered perforations in direct contact with the supply of a liquid product. A control circuit vibrates the actuator, substrate and its tapered perforations against the supply at velocities of at least 500 mm/s. Droplets are dispensed at a delivery rate of approximately 0.2 g/s resulting in plumes of at least 2 feet in length resulting in a Valpey factor of at least 51.0.
