A gearbox assembly for an electric drive module (EDM) having an electric motor that selectively provides drive torque for an electrified vehicle is provided. A differential is driven by the electric motor and is configured to selectively drive first and second drive axles. A planetary gear set is configured to selectively connect to an output of an electric motor through the differential, the planetary gear set including a sun gear, a ring gear and a planetary carrier. A winch includes a spool and is selectively driven by the planetary gear set. The gearbox assembly is switchable between (i) a first drive mode where the drive torque is routed from the electric motor, through the differential and to the first and second drive axles; and (ii) a second winch mode where the drive torque is routed from the electric motor, through the differential and to the spool.

An electric drive vehicle includes an electric motor having an output shaft, a gearbox assembly operably coupled to the output shaft, and a differential assembly configured to drive first and second axle shafts, where the first axle shaft includes separated first and second shaft portions. A disconnect system is configured to selectively connect the first shaft portion and the second shaft portion. In a driving mode, the disconnect system connects the first and second shaft portions for common rotation. In a towing mode, the disconnect system disconnects the first and second shaft portions to enable the electric drive vehicle to be towed without backdriving the electric motor.

A two-speed gearbox assembly for an electric drive vehicle includes a housing, a first planetary gear set configured to operably connect to an output of an electric motor to drive a first axle, the first planetary gear set including a first sun gear, a first carrier, and a first ring gear, a first clutch configured to selectively ground the first ring gear, and a second clutch configured to selectively ground the first carrier. A second planetary gear set is configured to operably connect to the output of the electric motor to drive a second axle, the second planetary gear set including a second sun gear, a second carrier, and a second ring gear. A third clutch is configured to selectively ground the second ring gear, and a fourth clutch is configured to selectively ground the second carrier. The first, second, third, and fourth clutches are independently controlled.
