Highly absorbent substrate article

This invention provides a process for the encapsulation of volatile liquids which can be natural or synthetic flavoring oils or perfumes in carriers, which are soluble in water. The encapsulates provided by this invention are prepared by spraying an emulsion comprising the carrier solution and the volatile liquid onto particles in a fluidized bed. The invention also provides detergent compositions and foodstuffs containing encapsulates of perfumes and flavors respectively.

Encapsulation of volatile liquids

A process for producing absorbent granules from sodium tripolyphosphate or disodium hydrogen orthophosphate by simultaneously granulating and hydrating the salts to full hydration. The process produces granules which have good absorbency without the need for a drying step. The granules can be used for absorbing liquid nonionic surfactant or other liquid components of detergent powders such as perfumes.

Detergent formulations are granulated commercially by spray drying a slurry of the formulation. There is now proposed a method in which the components in powder form are granulated with a binder in a substantially horizontal annular rotating bed. The binder may be released by the action of the rotating bed.

Method for preparing granulated detergent formulations

The disclosure relates to the protection of solid precursors in powder detergent compositions using a hydrogen peroxide bleach system. The finely divided precursor is formed, with a carrier material, into a composite particle which is then coated. The coated particle gives good dispersion of the precursor in the wash liquor.
