Integrated process for providing raw materials to a downstream operation to generate an article of manufacture. A carbon black production process is integrated with a gas fermentation process, and a feedstock preparation process is integrated with gas fermentation process. Both carbon black and a gas fermentation product are provided to a downstream operation. Secondary products from the carbon black process may be used in the gas fermentation process. Byproducts from the feedstock preparation process may be provided to the downstream operation or may be passed to the carbon black process. In certain aspects, the fermentation product may be ethanol, isoprene, butane diol, and/or ethylene. In certain aspects, the byproduct may be metal, metal oxide, char, silica, and/or steel. In certain aspects, the secondary product may be hydrogen and/or carbon dioxide. The downstream operation may be to generate plastic products, rubber products, tires, textiles, clothes, and the like.

Integrated gas fermentation and carbon black processes

Integrated process for providing multiple raw materials to a downstream operation to generate an article of manufacture. Pyrolysis, torrefaction, reforming, partial oxidation, and/or gasification is integrated with gas fermentation. Integrated process converts carbon sources that would otherwise be vented to the atmosphere or discarded as waste to a fermentation product and one or more byproducts, which in turn are provided to a downstream operation to generate an article of manufacture. In certain aspects, the fermentation product may be ethanol, isoprene, butane diol, ethylene. In certain aspects, the byproduct may be metal, metal oxide, char, silica, and or steel. The downstream operation to generate an article of manufacture may be an operation to generate plastic products, rubber products, textiles, clothes, and the like.

Integrated gas fermentation

The disclosure is directed to an apparatus and method for recovering ethanol from a fermentation broth. The fermentation broth comprises microbial biomass, ethanol, methanol, ethyl acetate, at least one thiol, and at least one compound having 3 or more carbon atoms. The method comprises separating at least microbial biomass from the fermentation broth to generate a process stream; removing, in any order, from the process stream: ethyl acetate by reacting ethyl acetate with a base compound followed by distillation; at least one thiol by adsorption or reaction to disulfide; methanol by distillation; compounds having 3 or more carbon atoms by distillation; and recovering ethanol by distillation; wherein the distillations may be conducted in a single column or two or more columns.

Process for purification of products

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a method and system for converting ethanol to para-xylene. The method also provides a pathway to produce terephthalic acid from biomass-based feedstocks. In some embodiments, the disclosed method produces p-xylene with high selectivity over other aromatics typically produced in the conversion of ethanol to xylenes, such as m-xylene, ethyl benzene, benzene, toluene, and the like. And, in some embodiments, the method facilitates the ability to use ortho/para mixtures of methylbenzyaldehyde for preparing ortho/para xylene product mixtures that are amendable to fractionation to separate the para- and ortho-xylene products thereby providing a pure feedstock of para-xylene that can be used to form terephthalic anhydride and a pure feedstock of ortho-xylene that can be used for other purposes, such as phthalic anhydride.

Method and system embodiments for converting ethanol to para-xylene and ortho-xylene

The present disclosure generally relates to methods for the recovery of amines from aqueous mixtures. In particular, the disclosure relates to methods for separating amines from amine-containing aqueous mixtures by adjusting the pH of the aqueous mixture relative to the highest pKa value for the amines.

Systems and methods for recovering amines and their derivatives from aqueous mixtures

The invention provides a process for producing a fermentable gas stream from a gas source that contains one or more constituent which may be harmful to the fermentation process. To produce the fermentable gas stream, the gas stream is passed through a specifically ordered series of removal modules. The removal modules remove and/or convert various constituents found in the gas stream which may have harmful effects on downstream removal modules and/or inhibitory effects on downstream gas fermenting microorganisms. At least a portion of the fermentable gas stream is preferably capable of being passed to a bioreactor, which contains gas fermenting microorganisms, without inhibiting the fermentation process.

Integrated process for filtering constituents from a gas stream

The disclosure provides for the separation and combustion of at least one hydrocarbon, oxygenate, sulfur compound, and or nitrogen compound, from industrial gas or gasification derived syngas to generate steam. A gasification process and a gas fermentation process may be integrated using tail gas from the fermentation process for the flame to combust tar and other compounds from the syngas generated by a gasification process. Integration may be achieved by removing tar and other compounds from industrial gas or gasification derived syngas using an adsorbent and regenerating the adsorbent using tail gas from the gas fermentation process. Tail gas enriched with the desorbed tar and other compounds may be used to generate steam in a steam boiler and the steam may be used for a variety of purposes including power generation to power, for example, a compressor of the gas fermentation process.

Use of fermentation tail gas in integrated gasification and gas fermentation system

One exemplary embodiment can be a process for facilitating a transfer of a metal catalyst component from at least one donor particle to at least one recipient particle in a catalytic naphtha reforming unit. The process can include transferring an effective amount of the metal catalyst component from the at least one donor particle to the at least one recipient particle under conditions to effect such transfer to improve a conversion of a hydrocarbon feed.

Process and system for the transfer of a metal catalyst component from one particle to another

The service life and deactivation rate of a reforming catalyst is improved through use of a new sulfur guard bed containing a chloride additive. This sulfur guard bed, which contains supported CuO material having an increased resistance to reduction, shows such improvement. Thus, the danger of run-away reduction followed by a massive release of water causing process upsets in a catalytic reforming process is practically eliminated. The fact that the guard bed material preserves the active metal phase&#x2014;copper in an active (oxide) form is an important advantage leading to very low sulfur content in the product stream. The sulfur capacity per unit weight of sorbent is also significantly increased, making this sorbent a superior cost effective sulfur guard product.

Adsorbent for feed and products purification in a reforming process

The service life and deactivation rate of a benzene saturation catalyst is improved through use of a new sulfur guard bed containing a chloride additive. This sulfur guard bed, which contains supported CuO material having an increased resistance to reduction, shows such improvement. Thus, the danger of run-away reduction followed by a massive release of water and deactivation of an isomerization catalyst is practically eliminated. The fact that the guard bed material preserves the active metal phase-copper in an active (oxide) form is an important advantage leading to very low sulfur content in the product stream. The sulfur capacity per unit weight of sorbent is also significantly increased, making this sorbent a superior cost effective sulfur guard product. The guard bed is effective in treating mixed phase feed streams.
