An environmental control system for conditioning a cabin of a vehicle positioned in an enclosed air-evacuated environment includes a first inlet for receiving a flow of a first medium, a second inlet for receiving a flow of a second medium, and a thermodynamic device fluidly coupled to both the first inlet and the second inlet. The thermodynamic device includes a compressor and at least one turbine operably coupled by a shaft. At least one conduit is fluidly coupled to the second inlet and bypasses the thermodynamic device. A mixing point is fluidly coupled to an outlet of the at least one turbine to the at least one conduit. A recirculation heat exchanger is fluidly coupled to an outlet of the thermodynamic device and to the at least one conduit at a location upstream from the mixing point.

Hyperloop environmental control system

An environmental control system for conditioning a cabin of a vehicle positioned in an enclosed air-evacuated environment includes a first inlet for receiving a first medium and a second inlet for receiving a second medium. The first medium and the second medium are mixed at a mixing point located upstream from the cabin to form a mixed medium. The environmental control system additionally includes a coolant loop having a coolant circulating therein and at least one heat exchanger. The coolant loop includes a pump for circulating the coolant. The coolant is thermally coupled to the mixed medium at the at least one heat exchanger.

An environmental control system for conditioning a cabin of a vehicle positioned in an enclosed air-evacuated environment includes a first inlet for receiving a first medium and at least one inlet for receiving a second medium. The second medium includes a first flow of the second medium and a second flow of the second medium. A thermodynamic device is fluidly coupled to the first inlet and includes a compressor and at least one turbine operably coupled by a shaft. The first medium is provided to the compressor and the at least one turbine in series. A first mixing point is fluidly coupled to the second inlet and an outlet of the at least one turbine. A regeneration heat exchanger is fluidly coupled to another outlet of the thermodynamic device and to the at least one inlet.

The present disclosure provides for hyperloop vapor cycle environmental control systems (ECS) and related methods. More particularly, the present disclosure provides for hyperloop vapor cycle environmental control systems and methods, with the hyperloop vapor cycle environmental control systems and methods configured without a compressor needed to pump a refrigerant through the system and configured without a condenser heat exchanger needed to condense gas refrigerant to a liquid to reject the heat of compression of a compressor to the ambient atmosphere. Since there is no need for a compressor, the example hyperloop ECS of the present disclosure requires only a small fraction of the electrical power of a standard vapor cycle air conditioning system. Power is needed substantially only for the ECS controller and some various valves.

A system and method that comprises an air cycle machine, a flow of bleed air, at least one heat exchanger, and an inlet configured to supply the flow of the bleed air is provided. The bleed air flows from a source to mix with recirculated air in accordance with a high pressure mode or a recirculation chilling mode. The system and method also can also utilize the recirculated air flowing from the chamber to drive or maintain the air cycle machine in accordance with the above modes.

A heat exchanger includes a distribution manifold, a plurality of longitudinally spaced tubes having inlet ends opening into the manifold, and a longitudinally extending distributor body disposed within the manifold. The distributor body has a first surface juxtaposed in spaced relationship with the inlet ends of the plurality of tubes and a second surface interfacing with the manifold inner wall. A plurality of discrete flow passages extend from an inlet end of the distributor body and open through the first surface of the distributor body. The plurality of discrete flow passages includes a plurality of longitudinally extending flow passages formed by channels or grooves extending along the interface of the second surface of the distributor body with the inner wall of the distributor manifold.

A system and method that comprises an air cycle machine, a flow of bleed air, at least one heat exchanger, and an inlet configured to supply the flow of the bleed air is provided. The bleed air directly flows from a source to mix with recirculated air downstream of a compressor of the air cycle machine in accordance with a high pressure mode or a recirculation chilling mode. The system and method can also utilize the recirculated air flowing from the chamber to drive or maintain the air cycle machine in accordance with the above modes.

A system and method that comprises an air cycle machine, a flow of bleed air, at least one heat exchanger, and an inlet configured to supply the flow of the bleed air is provided. The bleed air directly flows from a source to either a compressor of the air cycle machine or the at least one heat exchanger in accordance with a high pressure, low pressure, or pressure boost operation mode. The system and method also can also utilize recirculated air flowing from the chamber to drive or maintain the air cycle machine in accordance with the above modes.

An exdributor valve of a heat exchanger includes a distributor to distribute single phase liquid refrigerant to cooling channels of the heat exchanger and a flow modulation device. The flow modulation device is interposed between the distributor and the cooling channels and is modulates an area through which the single phase liquid refrigerant is permitted to flow.

An evaporator heat exchanger is disclosed. The evaporator heat exchanger includes a bottom plate, a top plate, and at least one main plate between the bottom plate and the top plate. The at least one main plate includes a first face having one or more channels for flow of a first fluid along the first face and a second face opposite the first face having one or more channels for flow of a second fluid along the second face, wherein heat is exchanged between the first fluid and the second fluid through the main plate. Main plates adjacent to each other define an enclosed channel for fluid flow.

Evaporator heat exchanger

Adaptable evaporator defrost logic is employed in a refrigeration system to detect a build-up of ice on the evaporator. In response to the detected build-up of ice, a defrost operation is initiated that includes decreasing the speed of the compressor. At the end of the defrost operation, the adaptable evaporator defrost logic determines whether the defrost operation was a success. If the defrost operation was a success, then normal operation is resumed. If the defrost operation was not a success, then the defrost operation is modified by turning the compressor off and extending a duration of the defrost operation.
