Sensor for wear measurement, method of making, and method of operating same

A synthetic filament formed from first and second compatible polymers. The first polymer has a first, higher melting temperature melting point and the second polymer has a second, lower temperature melting point that is at least 5&deg; C. lower. The polymers are mixed and extruded to form a filament that has two distinct melting points so that the filament remains stable and can be heat set at a temperature less than the first high temperature. A woven textile is also provided which incorporates the filaments in at least some of the machine direction and cross direction yarns.

The Oriented Thermoplastic Elastomer Thread Wound Golf Ball's performance is acheived by the incorporation of oriented thermoplastic elastomer threads in the golf ball design.

A liquid crystalline polyesters or poly(ester-amides) having improved melt viscosity, is made by reacting the polymer with limited amounts of a compound containing specified functionality, such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, or amine. The process may be carried out in a typical polymer melt mixing apparatus such as an extruder. The low viscosity polymer product of the claimed invention has surprising toughness and is particularly useful for encapsulation of electronic components.

Blends of theremotropic liquid crystalline polymers and unfunctionalized poly(phenylene oxides) and a non-conductive filler, in which the dispersed phase domain size preferably is relatively small and present in discrete particles. A low temperature process for polymerizing nylon monomers to freely flowing polymers is disclosed. The polymerization process is carried out at lower than conventional polymerization temperatures and produces a freely flowing polymer without thermal degradation.

Low temperature nylon polymerization process

A process for the preparation of a copolyamide involving copolymerization of (1) a carboxylic acid of terephthalic acid or a terephthalic acid/isophthalic acid mixture with (2) a mixture of hexamethylene diamine and 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine. The combined amount of isophthalic acid and 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine is controlled so that the resultant copolyamide exhibits few, if any, high melting fractions.

Manufacture of terephthalic acid copolyamides

A process for the copolymerization of (1) a carboxylic acid consisting of terephthalic acid and mixtures thereof with isophthalic acid with (2) a mixture of hexamethylene diamine and 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine. The combined amount of isophthalic acid and 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine is controlled so that the resultant copolyamide, when annealed, has less than 1% by weight based on the total weight of the copolyamide of fractions having melting points greater than 320.degree. C. Preferably, the combined amount of isophthalic acid and 2-methyl pentamethylene diamine is greater than 27.5%, molar basis, of the total amount of acid and diamine.
