A insert for a staged fuel burner and processes for using a burner with the insert. The insert has a burner tip that injects a mixture of primary fuel and combustion air into a combustion zone to produce a flame. A staged fuel is also injected into the combustion zone. Prior to being injected into the combustion zone, from the burner tip, the staged fuel, is injected into the burner tip and draws combustion air from the mixer of the burner insert into the burner tip with the staged fuel.

Premixed fuel and air are emitted in a staged fashion from a burner. A header delivers premixed fuel and air to a primary stage of combustion through a first plurality of outlets in communication with the pre-mixer. The same or another header may deliver premixed fuel and air to a secondary stage of combustion through a second plurality of outlets. A tile wall is located on the tile between the first plurality of outlets and the second plurality of outlets. A candelabra piece made of metal may comprise the pre-mixer and the header. In assembly, the candelabra piece may be inserted into the burner tile.

Burner for a furnace and a method of assembly

A burner assembly for and method of producing ethylene having a mechanism to inject either primary fuel, staged fuel, or both by premix methods before combustion in a furnace. The burner assembly has at least one premix injection assembly for either exclusively primary fuel or exclusively staged fuel injection paired with a nozzle mix injection or injection means for primary and staged fuel both by premix methods. The primary fuel premix assembly associates with a burner tile that consists of multiple inlets and outlets connected by venturi channels to direct and combine combustion air and staged fuel coming from staged fuel orifice spuds. Primary fuel and combustion air are mixed in a premix assembly and directed inside the furnace, and above the burner tile to complete the reaction with the staged fuel and combustion air mixture in a combustion zone inside of the furnace.

A method of optimizing steam methane reforming in a multiple cell, down-fired furnace. The method includes the steps of introducing hydrocarbons and steam to a plurality of catalyst filled process tubes, combusting gases through a plurality of center cell down-fired burners at a burner discharge velocity of V m/s, and a mass flow rate of 1 kg/s, combusting gases through outer cell down-fired burners at a burner discharge velocity of 1.5V-2V m/s and a mass flow rate of 0.5-0.65 kg/s, and finally discharging combustion products from the outer cell down-fired burners and the center cell down-fired burners at a substantially uniform momentum.

Method for optimizing down fired reforming furnaces

A combined flow mixing, tempering and noise suppressing apparatus for a selective catalytic reduction system, and method of use thereof is provided. The suppressing apparatus is positioned downstream of a gas input duct of the selective catalytic reduction system in order to provide improved flow uniformity and reduced noise at the entrance to the SCR system with minimal pressure loss. The combined flow mixing, tempering and noise suppressing apparatus includes lobe depressions that extend toward a centerline axis of a gas input duct of the selective catalytic reduction system and alternating lobe protrusions leading away from the centerline axis. The combined flow mixing, tempering and noise suppressing apparatus can include a means for introducing a secondary stream, such as an air manifold or an air bustle in fluid communication with the selective catalytic reduction system.

A radiant wall burner apparatus. The apparatus includes an inlet and primary fuel tip for introduction of fuel gas and air mixing in a mixing chamber. The fuel and air mixture are subject to a substantially uniform flow area from the point of discharge from a downstream portion of the mixing chamber up to the exit gap of the burner tip. The fuel gas and combustion air mixture terminate through the burner tip at a substantially uniform velocity. The radiant wall burner apparatus and burner tip allow for the substantially uniform velocity of the fuel gas and air mixture, reducing the potential for flashback of the burner tip.

An ammonia injection grid for a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that provides uniform distribution of ammonia to the SCR catalyst in NOreduction systems for heat recovery steam generation systems, packaged boilers, simple cycle catalyst systems and fired heaters for superior operational efficiency. The ammonia injection grid includes an injection tube having at least one nozzle for injecting ammonia into a flow of flue gas. The ammonia injection grid also includes a corrugated turbulence enhancer associated with the injection tube to generate turbulent wake to enhance turbulent mixing.

A fired equipment system and process for operating same is provided that combines stationary industrial burner technology and a catalyst bed that converts pollutants formed during combustion of fuel and air in the burner to yield stack gases that need no further treatment before discharge to the atmosphere. The system and process disclosed reduces CO, NOx and VOC's by at least 90 to 95%.

Fired equipment with catalytic converter and method of operating same

An improved burner assembly and process for operating same using a burner design that produces very low levels of undesirable nitrogen oxides is provided. The burner assembly premixes primary fuel and air in a venturi system and recirculates combustion gases back to the burner through a plurality of recirculation conduits where it is mixed with the premix of fuel and air and secondary air prior to combustion in a primary combustion zone. Rapid premixing of the primary fuel and air in the venturi system and the dispersion of the recirculated furnace gases is believed to result in lower peak flame temperatures and therefore minimizing the formation of the pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides.

Lean pre-mix low NOx burner

An improved process for heating furnaces using a burner design that produces very low level of undesirable nitrogen oxides is provided. The process recirculates a large volume of furnaces gases back to the burner where it is mixed with fuel gas in a plurality of recirculation ports prior to combusting with air in a primary combustion zone. Dispersion of the fuel gas in the recirculated furnace gases is believed to result in lower peak flame temperatures and therefore minimizing the formation of the pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides.

Method and apparatus for heating a furnace

The present invention is directed toward a multifocal contact lens having an improved front-surface lens design, which design can be used either as a stand-alone multifocal design for both distance- and near-vision correction or, in combination with a back-surface multifocal design, as a means to provide additional power for near-vision correction. In one embodiment of the invention, the contact lens has a front surface comprising a central elliptical curve, a mid-peripheral polynomial curve, and a lenticular spherical curve.

A gas fired burner is provided for use in applications such as chemical process furnaces for process heaters in refineries and chemical plants, and the like. The burner is provided with a plurality of fuel gas inlets for enabling manipulation of the flame shape and combustion characteristics of the burner, based upon variation in the distribution of fuel gas between the various fuel gas inlets. A combination pilot and flame holder for a burner, such as may be used in process heaters and furnaces for refineries, chemical plants and the like, is also provided. The pilot is mounted atop a supply pipe for premixed fuel and air, which is positioned in the bore of a burner quarl. The pilot includes a radially outwardly extending flange which is upstream of a surface combustion flame holder for establishing a radially directed surface combustion flame. The present invention also provides a low-emissions burner and pilot system for use in such process heaters and furnaces.

A burner assembly for process heaters or the like comprising a burner block, primary gas jets, secondary gas jets, a flame holder, and an air register for installation in a furnace wall or furnace floor is described. The burners are characterized in that primary fuel is introduced into the primary combustion zone of the burner at an angle horizontal to the flame holder whereby the fuel induces furnace gases from the furnace into the primary combustion zone. Similarly, the secondary fuel jets introduce a secondary fuel through the burner block for consumption in a combustion zone at the surface of the burner block. The secondary fuel also draws furnace gases into the combustion zone for consumption. The design provides for intense mixing of combustion air with the fuel and furnace gases, resulting in low NO.sub.x levels.
