An expansion mount, electrode arrangement and a surface treater station include a mounting block with one or more clamps pivotally coupled to the mounting block to move between a connect position and a release position. When the mounting block is coupled to a surface treater, the one or more clamps are configured to engage the electrode in the connect position and disengage from the electrode in the release position.

A continuous feed discharge surface treater for treating web materials has a discharge chamber where ionization of a process gas occurs defined and contained by one or more rollers. Enhanced chemical coronas and plasmas are achieved by limiting depletion of the gas chemistry from the discharge chamber and dilution or contamination from mixing with drawn in ambient air. Atmospheric coronas can also be achieved in which minimal or no ozone is exhausted from the treater. Various roller and electrode assemblies, including both fixed and rolling electrodes, can be employed.

An inductive cap sealer () for sealing an inner seal over an opening () in container () includes a vented sealing head (). The sealing head () contains an induction coil () for producing an electromagnetic field when energized by a power supply. Field focusing elements () contain the coil () and direct the electromagnetic field to a sealing region beneath the sealing head (). The housing () has a central inlet vent () flanked by two outlet vents () aligned with a vent plate () inside the housing () having a plurality of small openings () which allow a fan () to blow cooling air through the sealing head from only one side of the sealing head () in a generally U-shaped flow pattern, preferably from the side opposite the sealing region. The field focusing elements () are spaced to allow the cooling air to flow around the field focusing elements () and past the coil ().

An inductive cap sealer for sealing an inner seal over an opening in a container includes a vented sealing head. The sealing head contains an induction coil for producing an electromagnetic field when energized by a power supply. Field focusing elements contain the coil and direct the electromagnetic field to a sealing region beneath the sealing head. The housing has openings and the field focusing elements are spaced to allow cooling air to flow around the field focusing elements and past the coil.

A sealing head for an inductive cap sealing apparatus includes a outer housing containing a coil bobbin supporting a wire coil wound about a magnetic isolator. The coil bobbin and the magnetic isolator can be axially repositioned independently to vary the magnetic field with respect to a container being sealed placed below the sealing head. The housing has a pair of axial apertures containing spring and push rod assemblies connected to a cap plate. The cap plate is spring loaded away from the outer housing so as to clamp the cap and/or seal against the container being sealed.

A treater system includes a conductive roller electrode that supports a moving web that is to be treated. One or more active electrode assemblies mounted to support headers have a pair of active electrodes that are positioned to treat one surface of the web as the web passes over the roller electrode. Air or a gas/gas mixture can be selectively piped to a chamber adjacent the active electrodes and diffused along the length of the discharge surfaces to allow the treater to operate in three distinct modes: corona, chemical corona and atmospheric plasma. The active electrodes are cooled by passing air into and through tubular bodies of the active electrodes.

A cap sealing unit for securing foil-polymer laminate innerseals to containers has an air cooled electronics cabinet that may be sealed in accordance with NEMA 4 standards. Heat sinks in the bottom of the electronics cabinet and the top of the sealing head are cooled by two external, wash-down safe fans disposed between the cabinet and the sealing head. The fans draw air in opposite directions, one toward the cabinet and the other toward the sealing head. The cap sealer can be operated with interchangeable flat or tunnel sealing heads of various sizes and coil windings that can be connected to the power supply with plug-in shielded connector assemblies.

Spray washable air cooled cap sealer

A corona treatment apparatus has a rotating roller electrode and a stationary electrode assembly for treating material passing over the roller electrode. The stationary electrode assembly includes an electrode support that extends along the roller electrode and is spaced therefrom. A one-piece dielectric element is positioned between the electrode support and the roller electrode with the material to be treated passing therebetween. A plurality of conductive electrode elements are separately movable into a first position in contact with the one-piece dielectric element to produce a corona that treats material passing over the roller electrode. A separate over-the-center spring mechanism is provided to hold each conductive electrode element in the first, treatment position, or in a second, withdrawn position in which no corona is produced.
