Methods and systems for monitoring operation of an LED string. An exemplary system includes an LED string, a circuit that supplies current to the LEDs, a current measuring circuit that measures current through the LEDs, a voltage measuring circuit that measures voltage across the LEDs, and a temperature sensor that measures temperature proximate to the LEDs. A processor calculates a predicted string voltage based on a predefined voltage-current curve, number of LEDs, a predefined temperature coefficient value, the measured string current, a measured junction temperature, a life curve function, a prestored calibration string current value, a prestored calibration string voltage value, a prestored junction calibration temperature and an accumulated time value. The process also calculates an error value based on the predicted string voltage and a measured string voltage and generates an indication that there is a failure in the LED string if the calculated error value is greater than the predefined error limit.

Systems and methods for monitoring operation of an LED string

Systems and methods for allowing replacement of updated light heads with different design parameters to become independent of the remote power supply. An exemplary light system includes a light head remote from a power supply component. The light head includes one or more light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or other light emitting devices, a memory that stores configuration information and a communication component. The power supply component includes a power converter, a memory, and a controller. The power converter outputs an electrical signal for driving the one or more LEDs. The memory stores light head configuration information. The controller receives configuration information from the communication component via the data bus, generates and sends instructions, based on at least one of the configuration information stored in the power supply component memory or the configuration information received from the light head, to the power converter.

Methods and systems for minimizing light source power supply compatibility issues

A solid state microprocessor or digital signal processor (DSP) for dual mode illumination and dimming into modern aerospace searchlights. The system is a universal dimming platform with 'smart functions' that include and are not limited to multiple light intensity linearization curves, analog and/or digital input dimming interface, built-in tests and health monitoring, synchronized dual mode light output with canopy position, light driver redundancy, lamp life reporting, and controlled switching with improved EMI. With real-time monitoring of the system parameters it monitors the lights proper operation and failures which can be a concern for flight-critical lighting.
