Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to shaping a waveform of a reference signal used by a driver of a touch sensor to limit electromagnetic emissions (EME) emitted by a touch sensor during a sensing operation. Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to a DAC referenced touch sensor driver and controlling an amount of EME emitted at a touch sensor using shapes of reference signals used by a touch detector to detect touches at the touch sensor. Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to compensating for effects of foreign noise at a touch sensor and, more specifically, to changing a shape of a reference signal based on a change to a sampling rate made to compensate for foreign noise.

Digital-to-analog controller-referenced touch sensing system, and related systems, methods, and devices

A process includes receiving an associated input signal via a receiver electrode of a sensor array, the associated input signal indicative of an associated mutual capacitance of the receiver electrode; adding a balancing signal to the associated input signal to generate a balanced input signal at least partially responsive to a number of sensor nodes at the receiver electrode; generating a voltage signal indicative of the associated mutual capacitance of the receiver electrode at least partially responsive to a balanced input signal; and generating a digital value representative of the voltage signal.

Touch sensor mutual charge cancellation and related systems, methods and apparatuses

Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to shaping a waveform of a reference signal used by a driver of a touch sensor to limit electromagnetic emissions (EME) emitted by a touch sensor during a sensing operation. Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to a DAC referenced touch sensor driver and controlling an amount of EME emitted at a touch sensor using shapes of reference signals used by a touch detector to detect touches at the touch sensor. Some disclosed embodiments relate, generally, to compensating for effects of foreign noise at a touch sensor. A stylus includes a timer; a signal generator coupled to a stylus tip; a switch; and a controller comprising one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic. The logic is operable when executed to: in response to the switch of the stylus being ON, initiate the signal generator to generate a signal having a pre-determined frequency and a pre-determined voltage from the stylus tip, and activate the timer, and stop the generating of the signal when a timing of the activated timer reaches a pre-determined threshold.

Low-power and low-frequency data transmission for stylus and associated signal processing

In one embodiment, a controller includes a storage unit and a processor unit. The processor unit is coupled to the storage unit and configured to receive a signal associated with an operation of a device that includes a touch sensor. The touch sensor includes a first plurality of electrodes oriented in a first direction in a first portion of the touch sensor, a second plurality of electrodes oriented in the first direction in a second portion of the touch sensor, and a third plurality of electrodes intersecting the first and second plurality of electrodes. The processor unit is further configured to determine, in response to the signal, that a detection mode of the touch sensor is to be changed and in response to the determination, couple the second plurality of electrodes to a fixed voltage source to decrease a detection range in the second portion of the touch sensor.

Changing the detection range of a touch sensor

A device includes a controller coupled to a touch sensor. The touch sensor includes a first array of capacitive nodes substantially aligned with a second array of capacitive nodes in a mechanical stack. The controller is configured, when in a self-capacitive mode of operation, to send a first drive signal to a plurality of the electrodes of the first array, send a shield signal to at least a portion of the electrodes of the second array at the same time as the first drive signal is sent to the plurality of electrodes of the first array, and sense touch inputs based on signals received from the plurality of electrodes of the first array while the first drive signal is being sent to the plurality of electrodes of the first array and the shield signal is being sent to the at least a portion of the electrodes of the second array.

Touch sensor and associated control method for decreased capacitive loads

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a timer, a signal generator, a signal activator input, and a controller. The controller includes one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic that is operable when executed to initiate a coupling, in response to an actuation of the signal activator input, of a power source to the signal generator to thereby cause the signal generator to generate a signal. The logic is further operable to initiate a coupling, in response to the actuation of the signal activator input, of the power source to the timer to thereby activate the timer.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a sensor and a controller having a processor and a memory. The memory includes logic operable, when executed by the processor, to connect each electrode of a first subset of electrodes of the sensor and determine a first value associated with the first subset of electrodes. Based at least on the first value, the logic is further operable to alter the first subset of electrodes to a second subset of electrodes and connect, in response to determining to alter the first subset of electrodes to the second subset of electrodes, each electrode of the second subset of electrodes of the sensor.

Dynamic clustering of touch sensor electrodes

An apparatus of one embodiment includes a sensor having a plurality of electrodes and a controller having a processor and a memory. The memory includes logic operable to configure the plurality of electrodes of the sensor to form a first cluster pattern including a first cluster and a second cluster. The first cluster and the second cluster each include two or more electrodes of the plurality of electrodes. The logic is further operable to determine a value associated with a capacitance of a first cluster and configure, in response to determining the value, the plurality of electrodes to form a second cluster pattern. The second cluster pattern includes a third cluster and a fourth cluster. The third cluster and the fourth cluster each include two or more electrodes of the plurality of electrodes and the third cluster is interleaved with the fourth cluster such that an electrode of the third cluster is positioned between two electrodes of the fourth cluster.

Dynamic configuration of touch sensor electrode clusters

In one embodiment, a device includes a controller, first electrodes, second electrodes, a plurality of sensors, and a shield sensor. The controller is operable to cause substantially equal voltages to be present on the first and second electrodes while measuring capacitances of the plurality of first electrodes electrically coupled to the shield sensor and measuring capacitances of the plurality of second electrodes electrically coupled to the plurality of sensors.

Pseudo driven shield

In one embodiment, a method includes substantially simultaneously applying a pre-determined voltage to a sense electrode and a corresponding drive electrode of a touch sensor. The application of the pre-determined voltage providing a measurement current at a capacitance including the sense electrode. The method also includes determining a difference between the measurement current at the capacitance and a reference value; and determining whether a proximity input to the touch sensor has occurred based at least in part on the difference.

Voltage driven self-capacitance measurement

An apparatus of one embodiment includes a sensor having a plurality of electrodes and a controller having a processor and a memory. The memory includes logic operable to configure the electrodes to form a first cluster pattern having a plurality of first clusters of two or more electrodes, apply voltage to each first cluster, and determine a plurality of first values associated with a capacitance of a first cluster. The logic is further operable to configure the electrodes to form a second cluster pattern having a plurality of second clusters of two or more electrodes, apply voltage to each second cluster, and determine a plurality of second values associated with a capacitance of a second cluster. At least one second cluster is interleaved with an adjacent second cluster. The logic is further operable to determine a position of an object based at least on the second values.

In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a sensor having a plurality of electrodes and a controller having a processor and a memory. The memory includes logic operable, when executed by the processor, to connect each electrode of a first subset of the plurality of electrodes, apply voltage to the first subset, and determine a first value associated with a capacitance of the first subset. Based at least on the first value, the logic is further operable to connect each electrode of a second subset of the plurality of electrodes, the second subset having fewer electrodes than the first subset, apply voltage to the second subset, and determine a second value associated with a capacitance of the second subset.
