Method and apparatus for offsorting coins in a coin handling machine

A coin dispenser ( ) has a base ( ) for supporting an integrally formed coin magazine ( ) with coin channels ( ) rotating along a coin path ( ). A coin ejector ( ) is located at a single coin ejection location and proximate to said coin path ( ) to eject coins from the bottom of the coin channels ( ) into a change cup ( ). Electronic sensors ( ) are provided for anticipating the approach of the coin channels to the coin ejector ( ) and to a low coin sensing station ( ). An electronic control ( ) is responsive to position signals from the position monitors ( ) for coordinating operation of the coin ejector ( ) and the low coin sensor ( ). Electronically-controlled rotary coin change dispenser

A coin feed control apparatus includes a hopper (20) having a discharge opening (17) that is disposed above a rotating disc (10) of a coin handling machine. The discharge opening (17) is positioned over a coin receiving region (14) of the disc. A coin feed control member (30) is mounted for pivotal movement to further open or further close the discharge opening (17). The feed control member (30), the discharge opening (17) and the coin receiving region (14) are sized such that the feed control member (30) will tend to move to partially close the discharge opening (17) in response to a build-up of coins in the coin receiving region, and thereby limit the flow of coins through the discharge opening (17), and such that the reduction of coins in the coin receiving region (14) will allow the feed control member (30) to drop and further open the discharge opening (17) to allow a greater flow of coins into the coin receiving region. A slidable, tiltable and removable inspection pan (40) that rests on the hopper (20) is also disclosed.

Coin feed mechanism

The coin sorter includes a rotating hard disc forming the bottom of a hopper, and a stationary sorter plate to one side of the hard disc. The sorter plate includes a circular sorting track that begins at a point adjacent to the perimeter of the hard disc and which includes a series of spaced sorting openings each sized for a particular coin denomination. The track has an edge defined by a thin resilient rail held in place in a groove by an elastomer band. A second rotating disc having a series of resilient fingers depending from its underside is mounted above and in close proximity to the upper surface of the sorter plate. The fingers partially overlap the upper surface of the hard disc. Coins deposited in the hopper are formed into a single file and single layer at the outer edge a central upright portion of the hard disc. The single file of coins is carried by the flexible fingers from the hard disc to the sorting track where the coins are sorted by size and counted as they pass through the sorting openings.

A coin handling machine has an opening in the top of its housing that is normally closed by an inspection pan. The inspection pan is mounted to the housing so that it can be pivoted across the top to expose the opening and tipped to empty the contents of the pan out an exit at a corner of the pan and into the exposed opening.

A gas valve for controlling the flow of a combustible, gaseous fuel to a burner employs a modular construction and is configurable to be fast or slow opening, to be step opening or to provide two firing rates in accordance with external signals applied thereto.

A coin processing machine includes a hopper that empties into a coin splitting chute with divergent spouts to deliver a half batch of coins to each of two coin sorters operating in parallel. The receptacle is disposed on a counter top to discharge coins along a coin feeding path from the receptacle to the coin splitting chute. Feed control elements extend into the coin feeding path and are responsive to signals from the coin sorters for controlling the delivery of batches of coins to the coin splitting chute. In a first embodiment a trap door at the bottom of the hopper is operated to feed a second batch of coins into the coin sorters while a third batch is dumped into the hopper from a hinged inspection tray. In a second embodiment, larger batches of coins are carried from the receptacle to the hopper by a motor-driven conveyor to which power is interrupted in response to an excess flow of coins which is sensed within the coin sorters.

An electronic coin dispenser provides a calculator and a printer besides dispensing coins and displaying the amount of change on an 8-digit LED display. The electromechanical coin dispensing elements and the thermal print head are controlled by a microcomputer, which is responsive to mode select signals to direct such operations as: dispensing amounts between $0.01-$4.99; dispensing the cents portion of a dollar and cents amount on the LED display; and automatically advancing the tape a plurality of lines so that the expended portion can be conveniently torn off. Split change for a quarter and a dollar is provided by operating dual-function keys labeled '0/25' and '00/$' respectively. Remote data is received by the microcomputer through a remote interface and amounts dispensed by remote command are displayed in a distinctive manner. The microcomputer also performs timing functions which are essential to the operation of the print head and coin dispensing elements.
