A vehicle fan shroud and component cooling module (24) includes a fan (44) mounted within a fan ring (32) between the radiator (26) and condenser (28). Pressurized air, either positively pressurized (downstream of fan (44)), negatively pressurized (upstream of fan (44)), or both, is routed from within the fan ring (32) and to the component (22) to cool it. Since the air has not yet passed the radiator (26), it is not substantially hotter than regular ambient air. Unlike rammed ambient air, it is pressurized as long as the fan (44) is turning. It therefore provides better cooling than either rammed ambient air, or pressurized air picked up downstream of the radiator (26).

Vehicle fan shroud and component cooling module

An automotive dual radiator and condenser assembly with optimized structural and thermal capabilities. The two halves or layers of the dual assembly are interconnected by a pair of widely spaced, narrow webs, which webs interconnect two halves of a slotted tandem header plate unit. The webs, though small, are sufficient to maintain all components of the whole assembly properly and rigidly spaced at all times, during assembly, during brazing, and during and after installation. The two webs also represent the only significant direct heat conduction path between the radiator and condenser, so that thermal efficiency is comparable to a pair of non connected units.

Method of making a dual radiator and condenser assembly

A heat exchanger apparatus includes a pair of tank units for containing a fluid, such as an engine coolant, or freon, each including a header having a plurality of slots for receiving a plurality of parallel fluid flow tubes in fluid communication between the tanks. Air centers are connected between the parallel fluid flow tubes for directing an inlet air stream of the vehicle. Side plates are secured between the ends of the headers to protect and provide rigidity to the heat exchanger. Interlocking members are provided between the headers and sideplates for interlocking same to one another during the brazing process.

A heat exchanger apparatus includes a pair of tanks with parallel tube passes and air centers connected therebetween for cooling the engine fluid, such as a coolant, by the air intake stream to the vehicle. The tanks are formed by an extrusion forming three sides thereof and a header is brazed thereto for forming the fluid chamber in the tanks. The extrusion includes a die formed pocket therein to receive the sides and one end of a partition member and the second end of the partition member is curved to abut the header. The curved second end has flanged ears therein that seat in segments of the die formed pocket which are laterally outwardly of spaced sides segments of the pocket to position the partition within the pocket so that an outer surface thereon will be positioned against a header to form a braze seal between the partition and both the header and the extruded tank.

A condenser having two piece die formed condenser tube parts that are joined along a beveled outer edge. The tube material is braze cladded on both sides for corrosion resistance and for high quality internal braze bonding of (1) longitudinal tube webs for optimizing burst strength, and (2) the tubes to associated air centers which are not cladded for an economical unit. The tubes can be readily made in a multiport or single port design by die forming the longitudinal webs in each tube part, and at discreet lengths along the tube length to provide a cut off area for sizing the tube and a smooth circumferential area where the tube parts with a beveled outer edge enter the header providing a close fit and high quality brazed joints. This tube design provides material and cost advantages over the conventional extruded tubes or roll formed condenser tubes and is readily fabricated using corrosion resistant alloys providing long service life. The number and spacing of the webs in this construction can be readily made by changing the spacing of the dies for forming the tube parts. The method provided by this invention provides increased output with higher machine speeds as compared to extrusion type processes.

Method of manufacturing a tube for a heat exchanger

A unit is provided where there is, included, a grip portion (8), a strap portion (11), and a buckle portion (14), which can be encircled around a load to facilitate bundling, carrying and storing of that load and can be attached to the load without having to set down that load. The unit will remain around load until removed because of the friction between the strap portion (11) and buckle portion (14). Unit may also be semi-permanently attached to a part of the said load so as to prevent the loss of the unit. For example: A person may insert a rope (62) through the dog bone slots (47) (50) to retain the unit when the unit is not being used to bundle said rope (62). A hole (29) is provided in strap portion (11) so unit may be hung on a nail or other protruding object. A flap (23) in the grip portion is also provided. This not only strengthens the grip portion (8), but also displaces the weight of the load throughout a persons hand (59). The unit is adjustable and a multitude of units may be coupled together by inserting the grip portion (8) of one unit into the buckle portion (14) of another unit to create one large unit.

A heat exchanger assembly has a pair of spaced extruded tanks and a tube and header subassembly including a pair of header plates on opposite ends of a plurality of spaced parallel tubes. The extruded tanks include stop surfaces thereon for locating the subassembly within the extruded tanks and the extruded tanks further include a pair of seal ribs and a pair of deformable side flanges defining a pocket for receiving flux material to secure the subassembly to the extruded tanks without exposing the flux material to the interior of the extruded tanks.

An adapter comprising a tubular housing carrying a 110 to 125 volt type plug receptacle is disclosed. The plug receptacle forms the output side of the adapter, with the input side consisting of a metallic pick-up strip for insertion into the electrode holder carried by the output lead of an electric arc welder. The input side of the adapter also includes a fused ground clip which is connectable onto an electrical ground such as the grounded output lead of an arc welder.
