A wireless monitoring system for monitoring at least one person in a building. The wireless monitoring system comprises a data collection device and a plurality of wireless signalling devices working in a star network topology, the data collection device being adapted to wirelessly receive data transmitted from each of the plurality of wireless signalling devices. The signalling devices and the data collection device being adapted to send and receive FSK modulated signals in a predetermined single channel and the signalling devices being adapted to send data packets such as a heartbeat message to the data collection device.

A method for validating an alarm situation in a home includes determining by a processing unit of an alarm situation on the basis of data received from the home provided with a sensor network comprising one or more sensors and a central unit; transmission by the processing unit of a message to a care provider that an alarm situation is occurring at the occupant; sending out of a notification signal by the processing unit to the central unit; upon receiving the notification signal in the central unit, switching on an increased vigilance mode, wherein a call from the one or more care providers is prepared in the central unit by making available an audio function in one or more sensors of the sensor network; validating the alarm situation by establishing a conversation between one of the care providers and the occupant via the at least one sensor.

Method and system for validating an alarm situation

A system for monitoring a person in a building having multiple rooms. The system comprises a wireless sensor system for detecting and collecting movements of the person. The wireless system comprises: a data collecting device with an RF receiver; a plurality of wireless signaling devices with an RF transmitter, an adjustable room setting, a multi-color light source, and a push button; and a computing device with analysis software, and communication means for transmitting analysis date to viewing devices having a color display. When the button is pushed, a specific color is shown, the color is linked to the room-type and is set during configuration. The same color is used in the viewing devices. This allows easy and intuitive configuration, and easy and intuitive interpretation of the analysis data.

A 2D occupancy system for determining a position of a user (e.g. a human, an object or an animal) in an environment includes a host device and a plurality of motion detection devices. The host device and the plurality of motion detection devices are connected through a network. Each motion detection device has a viewing angle and the viewing angle of any motion detection device overlaps with the viewing angle of at least one other motion detection device. The host device comprises an input port for receiving motion information from the plurality of motion detection devices, and a processing unit for determining the position of the user in the environment from the motion information from particular motion detection devices at a same time-stamp.

System and method for 2D occupancy sensing

The present invention relates to a detection device and a method for detecting a presence of an object in a surveillance area. The device comprises at least one infrared radiation sensing element each adapted for generating a sensor signal related to a quantity of infrared radiation received from within the surveillance area by the infrared radiation sensing element, a processing unit and an output means for outputting a determined presence of the object and/or a property derived therefrom. The processing unit is adapted for: obtaining the at least one sensor signal; generating at least one contrast value by comparing the at least one sensor signal to at least one reference value; determining the presence of the object by evaluating a condition on said at least one contrast value; and adjusting the at least one reference value such that negative feedback is applied to the at least one contrast value.

A method of calibrating a camera system which is capable of recording at least two images simultaneously is described. The method comprises the step of processing a first pair of images, wherein the processing step comprises transforming at least one of a first and a second image of the first pair through a projective map on a plane, the map depending on one or more parameter values, so as to align an epipolar line in the first image with a corresponding epipolar line in the second image of the first pair, resulting in a second pair of images. The method further comprises estimating respective values for a disparity, which values associate respective first pixels along a first epipolar line in a first image of the second pair with respective second pixels along a corresponding second epipolar line in a second image of the second pair, and displacing respective pixels of the first epipolar line in the first image of the second image pair in accordance with a respective value of the disparity for the respective pixels. The method further comprises determining a measure of error between the first and the second image of the second image pair, dependent on the one or more parameters, determining an update for the one or more parameter values for reducing a value of the measure of error, and updating the one or more parameter values, using the update.

Calibrating a camera system

The invention refers to a flash light compensation system and corresponding method for digital camera systems, wherein a luminance compensation is carried out on an image of a scene () picked-up by an image sensor (), on the basis of a respective intensity field measured by a plurality of sensors (), when the scene is illuminated by flash light emitted by a flash device (). Depending upon the output signals of the plurality of sensors a depth field of the scene is estimated, and this estimation provides a basis for the luminance adjustment on the scene picked up as an image while illuminated by the flash device. The system and method is suitable for effectively reducing the problem of unevenly distributed lighting on a picked-up image of the scene.
