A fluid dispenser has a discharge path outletting at a discharge orifice provided in a nozzle cap in engagement with a nipple surrounding a dispenser needle valve, the cap being adjustable axially of the needle valve so as to move an open ended swirl chamber, which surrounds the discharge orifice, relative to the needle valve into and out of engagement therewith. The fluid is emitted from the discharge orifice in a concentrated and linear pattern upon disengagement between the swirl chamber and the needle valve. Otherwise, upon movement of the cap until the needle valve plugs the open end of the swirl chamber, a shaped spray pattern is created through the discharge orifice. The orifice is defined by a circular wall and by a pair of opposed projections thereon, the projections extending inwardly of the orifice and having spaced apart ends so as to effect a substantially flat spray pattern through the orifice when movement of the cap toward the needle valve causes the valve to plug the swirl chamber end.

Adjustable spray fluid dispenser

A dispensing pump of the type having opposing pump housing members and a trigger for actuating a variable volume pump chamber, the trigger being mounted on one of the members for pivotal movement as a trigger trunnion bears against bracket seats on the one housing member. The pair of leg members on the other housing member bear against the trunnion for maintaining it seated against the brackets so as to facilitate pivotal movement of the trigger.

In a liquid dispensing pump of the deformable diaphragm type, the diaphragm includes an encircling marginal flange which is clamped between the pump housing members to function as a sealing gasket, with integral portions of the flange extending across the inlet and discharge passages leading to and from the pump chamber to function as flap type intake and outlet valves having their free edges defined by apertures in the flange through which the liquid may pass when the valves are unseated.

Liquid dispenser having deformable diaphragm type pump

A dispensing pump for application to a product container includes an elongated housing having a recess in a sidewall thereof and a flexible bulbous diaphragm seated over the recess for a trigger-type actuation as the housing is gripped in the manner of a handle. A variable volume pump chamber is defined by the diaphragm together with the recess, and an inlet passage is provided in the housing through which the product passes from the container into the recess. The diaphragm has an annular inner skirt for closing the inlet passage in response to axial deformation of the diaphragm, as well as intermediate and outer annular skirts. The intermediate skirt has a lower free edge portion normally covering a discharge port in the housing which communicates with the pump housing, and the outer skirt has a lower free edge portion normally covering a vent port in the housing which communicates with the atmosphere. The lower edge portions of the intermediate and outer skirts are of resilient flexible materials so as to respectively uncover the discharge and vent ports in response to a given fluid pressure therewithin. Accordingly, the inlet passage is closed upon depression of the diaphragm and the discharge passage is simultaneously uncovered to permit the contents of the diaphragm to be discharged. Upon release of the diaphragm the vacuum pressure thereby created effects a closing of the discharge passage and an opening of the inlet passage for refilling of the pump chamber. As the dispensable product is withdrawn from the container, the vacuum pressure therein created effects an opening of the vent passage and permits air to flow into the container.

Dispensing pump

A resiliently deformable diaphragm having a central domed portion surrounded by a marginal flange, has its flange clamped between opposing members of the pump housing whereby the central domed portion of the housing co-operates with one of the members to define a variable volume pump chamber. The convex side of the dome is received within a central opening in the other member and normally seats over and closes a vent port within said opening. An actuating lever fulcrumed on the housing has an arm movable upwardly through the said opening to deforming engagement with the diaphragm dome to alternately compress and to permit expansion of the dome. The inlet and outlet passages of the pump respectively extend from the pump chamber through the interfaces between the flange and the housing members and include inlet and outlet ports respectively controlled by the flange, recesses being provided in the interfaces at locations opposite the respective ports to permit deflection of portions of the flange so that they may function as inlet and outlet valves respectively.
