The method includes storing a gateway tunnel identifier, a base station identifier and a base station tunnel identifier; receiving, by the base station, a service request message from a device; establishing, by the base station, a radio bearer between the base station and the device in response to the service request message; receiving, by the base station, one or more first uplink data packets from the device using the radio bearer; modifying, by the base station, the one or more first uplink data packets such that the one or more first uplink data packets include the gateway tunnel identifier, the base station identifier and the base station tunnel identifier; and sending, by the base station, the modified uplink data packet to a gateway.

The method includes receiving a session description protocol offer, including a list of internet protocol realms. The list may include any number of previously traversed through internet protocol realms and/or secondary Internet protocol realms. The method continues with determining the outgoing Internet protocol realm for a media path based on unspecified signaling criteria. Finally, the method includes that if the outgoing Internet protocol realm to be traversed through is on the list of previously traversed through and/or secondary Internet protocol realms, bypassing at least one border gateway associated with the incoming and previously traversed through Internet protocol realms. The system implementing a method for identifying optimal end-to-end media paths and Internet protocol multimedia subsystems includes a list of internet protocol realm instances and an application level gateway configured to receive a session description protocol offer having connection information and port information, and a procedure to determine that if the outgoing Internet protocol realm that the media path may traverse through is on the list of instances, the media path connection information and port information is substituted to facilitate border gateway bypassing.

A method for delivering a mobile terminated call to a mobile device communicating with a mobile switching center (MSC) in one example comprises steps of attempting to deliver the mobile terminated call to a mobile device, receiving a message that the mobile device is no longer in the location area served by the visiting MSC and forwarding the mobile terminated call to a different visiting MSC. The mobile terminated call is forwarded directly from one VMSC to another VMSC without requiring two potentially international calls to be placed serially from the GMSC to a VMSC. This method of Mobile Termination Roaming Forwarding can reduce substantial delay in call setup while saving network resources during establishment of the first call.

In the third case, the NGCN is configured to forward all originating requests to an NGN (the trunking home NGN) via the peering model, and the NGN applies a set of agreed services using NGN ASs to each request before forwarding to the intended recipient. In the fourth case, an NGN is configured among the external networks as the roaming home NGN to receive a SIP REGISTER request from an NGCN user that has roaming capability, and the NGN forwards that request to the NGCN for handling.

A call processing method and system in which the use of the MGW between the RNC and the peer party is limited to only certain situations. This invention uses RFC 3267 (AMR/IETF) on the RNC. This will avoid inserting a MGW context for framing conversion only. This invention provides an optimization that sets up calls from the RNC, thus avoiding the need for a MGW in the path for basic calls. With this optimization, the usage of DSP and packet resources and the number of MGW chassis, as well as bearer path delay, are all reduced.

The method provides for a first network controller, operating according to a first radio technology, to form and send a relay message to a second network controller, operating according to a different, second radio technology. The relay message includes an embedded message for the second network controller. A method and system for providing circuit-switched to IP Multimedia Subsystem voice call continuity with a single radio are provided. The exemplary embodiment takes advantage of a standard RANAP signaling procedure called 'directed retry' to perform a much better coordination between the change in radio mode and the transfer of the media path. With the use of 'directed retry', the transfer of the media path does not begin until the handover procedure is complete, thus significantly reducing the likely amount of media disruption.
