An advanced method and facility for growing abundant crops for food together with a sustainable growth of biomass for energy within a farm setting measuring (by way of example) 600 acres and yielding some 180 bushels of corn per acre, amounting to a total farm yield of 108,000 bushels. By increasing the yield of 180 to 270 bushels per acre with drainage, irrigation, and a pond that accepts water in wet weather and dispenses water for irrigation in dry weather, and supplementing with fertilizer, the 108,000 bushels can be produced with only 400 acres, this freeing 200 acres for growing biomass to be harvested and delivered to a centralized processor (preferably in pellet form) and efficiently converts the biomass into a biofuel rich in Hfor transportation such as gasoline and a low-Btu biofuel to generate biopower while co-producing fertilizer to enhance growth of both crops and biomass.

Sustainable method inclusive of facilities to grow and process crops for food and biomass for energy in an environmentally acceptable manner

A carbonaceous-based metallizing method and apparatus wherein a metallic oxide is converted into a carbon-containing, metallized intermediate that is melted in an induction channel furnace to produce liquid metal from said metallic oxide. In the application of iron ore in the form of fines or concentrate, using low-cost coal will greatly reduce capital and operating costs by virtue of eliminating agglomeration of ore, cokemaking, and blast furnace operation. The liquid iron so produced is efficiently converted into steel in a steelmaking furnace such as a basic oxygen furnace (BOF), especially when it is physically integrated to the induction channel furnace wherein the liquid iron is directly poured into the integrated BOF by the induction channel furnace, producing low-cost steel, little heat loss, and minimum emissions.

Method for making liquid iron and steel

An advanced method for processing a solid feedstock such as coal and a liquid feedstock such as bitumen wherein gases produced from such fossil fuel feedstocks are divided in a way as to polygenerate various by-products which includes the conversion of a waste gas (flue gas) containing nitrogen (N) and carbon dioxide (CO) generated from the combustion of said gases to produce an intermediate made of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) in the form of cyanogen which in turn is converted to a fertilizer such as oxamide. This approach obviates the necessity of COcapture and storage in a geologic formation. Besides the making of a fertilizer from a waste gas containing Nand CO, the other by-products can be power in the form of electricity and/or steam from a lean gas and liquid transportation fuel like methanol/gasoline, or chemicals from a hydrogen rich gas. The method is applicable to utility as well as to industry. This approach provides a comprehensive solution with respect to the use of energy from fossil fuels in an efficient and environmentally acceptable manner.

Advanced method for processing fuels

A method and apparatus for gasifying a solid fuel within a pressurized gasifier without a lockhopper, a slurry or pulverization comprising the feeding of said fuel into a charging chamber having a first section equipped with a ram through which a mandrel is disposed, and a second section within which an impervious seal is formed from the solid fuel by the compressive forces generated by said ram and a third section into which the seal is advanced while said ram forms a successive seal in said second section. The seal from said third section is reduced in size and charged into the pressurized gasifier where it is gasified without loss of pressure. The gases produced are utilized to polygenerate products such as transport fuels and electric power, and a fertilizer from waste gas resulting from the combustion of one of the produced gases.

Method and apparatus for gasifying solid fuels

The present invention consists of an improved method and apparatus to upgrade bitumen in various forms which comprises four main components; namely, a fractionator equipped with a condenser, a heavy gas oil catalytic treater, a catalyst regenerator/gasifier and a gas cleanup assembly. In operation, the bitumen in liquid form is fed to the fractionator for initial separation of fractions with the bulk of the bitumen leaving the bottom of the fractionator in the form of a heavy gas oil which is pumped to the catalytic treater and sprayed on a hot catalyst to crack the heavy gas oil (an endothermic reaction) to release lighter hydrocarbons in the form of Hrich volatile matter while depositing carbon on the catalyst. The volatile matter from the treater is directed to the fractionator where the condensable fractions are separated from the non-condensable Hrich gas, a valuable primary gas. The carbon containing catalyst from the treater is recycled to the regenerator/gasifier, and the catalyst after being regenerated (an exothermic reaction) is fed hot to the treater. Various fractions are removed from the fractionator as intermediates in the form of light napthas and light oils. The off-gas from the regenerator/gasifier is directed to a gas cleanup system to produce a valuable secondary gas. Both the primary gas and the secondary gas may be further utilized in the processing of the intermediates produced by the method, the primary gas being a source of Hand the secondary gas being a source of thermal energy.

Method and apparatus for upgrading bituminous material

A dispener comprising a liquid supply and a cooling reservoir, the cooling reservoir having an entry port and an exit port. The cooling reservoir is shaped so as to position a pocket of air at the top of the reservoir when the reservoir contains liquid, and the entry port communicates with the air pocket. The dispenser has a conduit connected on one end to the liquid supply and on the other end to the entry port of the cooling reservoir. The dispenser further comprises a cooling element disposed inside the cooling reservoir and a first pump for moving the liquid from the liquid supply to the cooling reservoir through the conduit.

Water cooler and dispenser

A portable and adjustable ironing board system in which the ironing board may be securely affixed to a door is shown. The ironing board system of the present invention includes a singular support tube extending along the height of the door and securely attached to both upper and lower edges of the door. The ironing board system has an adjustable ironing board height and the singular support tube is adjustable to securely affix the tube to the door. The ironing board may be placed in the useful horizontal position or in the stored vertical position. The design of the ironing board system provides that the rear end of the ironing board slides along the support tube in a manner such that when in the vertical stored position the upper surface of the ironing board is facing outward. The ironing board can be locked in the downward horizontal position or in the stored vertical position by locking clamps. Further adjustment of the ironing board are allowed by the use of adjustment feet on the support frame.

Door mounted ironing board

A container system includes a one-piece, one-way valve. The container system can be evacuated by pressing the lid, thereby forcing air out of the one-way valve. The one-way valve does not allow air to enter the container system. The one-way valve includes an interface or release which allows air to enter the container system when the interface is pressed. The one-way valve is preferably an umbrella-shaped valve made of a silicone or plastic.

A portable ironing board having a two-way swivel bracket assembly. The ironing board may be affixed to a dryer and stored in the space between a washing machine and dryer and is attached to the dryer by means of an attachment assembly. The attachment assembly allows secure affixing of the entire ironing board assembly to the top, side and bottom of the dryer. The ironing board additionally has a swivel assembly which allows the ironing board to be rotated about a first and a second axis. The first rotation allows the ironing board to be swiveled from a vertical stored position in which the ironing board is directed downwards to a vertical position wherein the ironing board extends outward toward the front of the dryer. The second rotation ability allows the ironing board to be swiveled about such that the ironing board rests upon the top of the dryer.

A battery operated, hand-held fluid dispenser comprises a supply container having a body portion and a narrow neck extending upwardly therefrom. A pump and discharge unit is mounted on the upper end of the neck and comprises a pump diaphragm and pump chamber for pumping liquid from the container to a discharge nozzle. A battery powered pump drive unit is removably mounted on the container and comprises an electric motor having an output shaft coupled with the pump diaphragm to displace the latter through a pump stroke when the motor is energized. The pump drive unit is interconnected with the pump and discharge unit and with the body portion of the container and either alone or together with the neck provides a handle for holding the container during a dispensing operation. Removability of the pump drive unit provides for the latter to be usable with supply containers having different fluids to be dispensed.

Battery operated fluid dispenser

A manually operable sprayer mountable on a supply container comprises a pump cylinder supporting a cylindrical, rollable pump diaphragm having a closed end coaxial with the cylinder and linearly axially displaceable toward and away from the cylinder by a trigger and pump actuator assembly including a pivotal trigger interconnected with a pump actuator for pivotal displacement of the trigger to be translated into linear axial displacement of the actuator which is connected to the end wall of the pump diaphragm. The component parts are enclosed in a housing defined by a pair of hingedly connected housing members, and a retainer member by which the sprayer is mountable on a supply container by a threaded cap either supports the component parts as a unitary assembly or interengages with the housing to cooperatively support the component parts therewith.

Trigger sprayer

A surgical suit includes a hood fitted loosely about the user's head and a gown fitted loosely about the user's body. The hood has a large visor through which the user can see. A housing is spaced above the user's head and underneath the hood. The housing carries a substantial portion of the weight of the hood. The housing is supported above the user's head by means of vertically extending support rods that are connected to a backpack. A fan is disposed in the housing, as well as an optional thermoelectric module. An exhaust fan is included as part of the backpack. The fan in the housing causes air to be drawn through a filter and then flowed past the user's face. The fan in the backpack causes air to be drawn downwardly from around the user's upper body and exhausted from the gown through a filter.

A hand-actuated multiple-container trigger sprayer includes a sprayer head assembly removably connected to a plurality of fluid containers. The sprayer head assembly has an outer housing, a nozzle attached to the housing, pump mechanism enclosed within the housing, and tubing fluidly connecting each of the plurality of fluid containers with the pump mechanism in the housing. A trigger or lever actuates the pump mechanism to draw fluid through the tubing from each of the plurality of fluid containers and to discharge the fluid through the nozzle. A metering device is located between the fluid containers and the pump mechanism and is accessible externally from the housing to selectively control the amount of fluid drawn from the containers. The metering device includes flow paths to the pump mechanism for each of the fluid containers. The diameter and length of at least one of the flow paths can be controlled to selectively control the amount of fluid drawn from the fluid containers.

An extendable key operator which has a handle, an outer extension arm and an inner extension arm pivotally connected to the handle and the outer extension arm. The outer extension arm has a key retaining end portion. The arms are movable between a retracted position in which the arms are positioned adjacent to the handle and an extended position. In the extended position, the key retaining end portion and the arms are extended from the handle to allow a person to operate a key retained on the outer extension arm by grasping the handle. The handle is connected to the outer extension arm by one pulley connected to the handle, another pulley is connected to the outer extension arm and a belt is positioned around the pulleys. The pulleys have slots therein and the belt has complimentary cleats thereon. The cleats are positioned in the slots in the pulleys to synchronize and control the angular movement of the handle and the outer extension arm and lock the angular movement of the outer extension arm with respect to the handle. A locking member is movably mounted on the handle and has a locking projection. The inner extension arm has a first locking depression which receives the locking projection of the locking member when the operator is in the retracted position and a second locking depression which receives the locking projection when the operator is in the extended position. The pulleys, belt, locking member and locking depressions, lock the arms and the handle into a compact, rigid structure in the retracted position and an elongated, rigid structure in the extended position. In the extended position, the key may be used a distance from the hand of the person using the key operator.
