Lubricating oils useful as gear oils, circulating oils, compressor oils and in other applications characterized by and excellent balance of anti-wear and anti-rust characteristics are based on high quality base stocks including a major portion of a hydrocarbon base fluid such as a PAO with a secondary base stock component which is preferably a long chain alkylated aromatic, such as an alkylnaphthalene. A synergistic combination of additives comprising an adduct of a substituted triazole such as benzotriazole or a substituted benzotriazole, e.g. tolyltriazole (TTZ) with an amine phosphate and a trihydrocarbyl phosphate such as cresyl diphenylphosphate (CDP), confers the desired balance of anti-wear and anti-rust properties. In addition, the present oils typically include an anti-oxidant component and a rust inhibitor together with other optional additive components.

High performance lubricating oils

Homogeneous lubricant blends are disclosed comprising polyether liquid lubricants miscible with synthetic hydrocarbon fluids or severely hydroprocessed basestock. The lubricants comprise SHF or hydroprocessed basestock and polyalkylene oxide polymer having recurring units of at least one long chain monoepoxy alkane monomer(s) containing 8 to 30 carbon atoms and short chain comonomer(s) selected from the group consisting of substituted or unsubstituted tetrahydrofuran, oxetan, butylene oxide propylene oxide and ethylene oxide wherein the mole ratio of long chain monoepoxy alkane monomers to short chain comonomers is between 0.5 and 9.

Polyether fluids miscible with non-polar hydrocarbon lubricants

Dialkyl dithiocarbamate-derived organic ethers have been found to be effective antiwear/antioxidant additives for lubricants or fuels.

Dithiocarbamate-derived ethers as multifunctional additives

Polymer oils having reduced viscosity and increased viscosity index are produced by oligomerizing a mixture of short chain 1-olefins and long chain 1-olefins in the presence of water or alcohol promoted boron trifluoride catalyst and low-boiling recycle from a previous oligomerization run.
