A system and method for adding speech recognition to graphics user interface based applications for a computer system is described. The speech recognition system provides a profile generation module that enables users to create editable profiles of grammar and corresponding actions that may be used by a speech agent and in combination with an accessibility framework to drive that application based on the user's spoken commands.

Method and apparatus for collocating dynamically loaded program files

A method and apparatus for dynamic loading of a transport mechanism is provided. A resource locator (RL) corresponding to a collaboration session is requested from a registry. A location indicator to the RL in the registry is received. In response to receiving the location indicator to the RL in the registry, a transportation mechanism specified in the first RL is dynamically loaded, and the collaboration session is joined. Thus, users wishing to collaborate use the registry to determine the type of transport mechanism they need to dynamically load to communicate with each other.

Method and apparatus for dynamic loading of a transport mechanism in a multipoint data delivery system

In embodiments of the present invention incorporate a facility to make a user, or client, aware of other users that are currently viewing the same Web, or display page. Functionality is provided in a browser to allow a user to initiate a collaboration operation with other users on the same Web page. A user provides user information to a registry via a registration process. The registry is further updated to include an entry identifying the page that is currently being viewed by a user. The user can access a collaboration interface to view a list of users that are currently viewing the same page as the user. The collaboration interface further allows the user to select a collaboration operation to collaborate with one or more users that are currently viewing the same page. In embodiments of the invention, the collaboration interface is generated by a Java applet and is contained within a portion of any general-purpose or special-purpose browser. The collaboration interface accepts input entered within an input field of the interface and processes it accordingly. A request to change Web pages updates the registry to reflect the new page. If the input is a request to initiate a collaborative operation, the collaboration interface initiates the operation.

Method and apparatus for multi-user awareness and collaboration

The same &ldquo;look and feel&rdquo; of environment applications is given to non-environment, or foreign, applications. Like environment applications, a non-environment application is docked, launched and run in the environment. There is no need to modify a foreign application to run in the environment. When a foreign application is docked, a wrapper application is associated with the foreign application. The wrapper application launches the foreign application, awaits a notification regarding a change in status for the foreign application, and communicates with the environment's docking application regarding the status of the foreign application. The same menu that is created for environment applications is created for the foreign application that allows a user to manipulate the foreign application's windows and execution. The dock tile associated with the foreign application is modified to reflect changes in the status of the application. The wrapper application is used to manage a single foreign application. Alternatively, a wrapper application can be used to manage multiple foreign applications (e.g., multiple instances of different foreign applications or multiple instances of the same foreign application). With the present invention, there is no need to re-write a non-environment application to make it compatible with an environment. Using the present invention, an application is compatible with a foreign environment. Thus, legacy applications can be used in the environment without modifying the application.
