The invention relates to analyte monitoring/drug (pharmaceutical agent) delivery device. The invention is suited for monitoring various blood constituents such as glucose. The device has a housing that at least partially encloses a plurality of microneedles disposed on a carrier and an electronics portion. Each microneedle is in fluid communication with a corresponding microchannel. Each microneedle is individually addressable. That is, each microneedle can be extended and retracted individually via an actuator. The electronics portion includes a processor and associated circuitry (e.g., memory, supporting electronics and the like), a motor or the like, a sensor, a power supply (e.g., battery) and optionally an interface. In general, the processor controls the operation of the device and is data communication with the actuator, motor, sensor and interface. The invention provides for autonomous operation, that is, without intervention of the user. The invention can optionally provide for calibration without intervention of the user. The invention can also provide for semi-continuous monitoring for day and night time. The invention can provide for up to four, or more, weeks of operation. The invention can provide for a device that is relative small in size, and therefore unobtrusive. The invention can also provide for device with remote control and interactive electronics. The invention may be also used for the delivery of various pharmaceutical agents including high potency drugs to minimize patient intervention and minimize discomfort.

Autonomous, ambulatory analyte monitor or drug delivery device

The invention relates to analyte monitoring/drug delivery device. The invention is suited for monitoring various blood constituents such as glucose. A highly portable biometric monitor is disclosed. At least one remote sensor member () includes one or more biometric sensors () configured for operative coupling with a patient. A neck collar () includes electronics () for operating the at least one remote sensor member. The at least one remote sensor member is separate from and not disposed on the neck collar. Optionally, the collar also includes one or more biometric sensors (). A communication link () operatively connects the remote sensor member and the electronics of the neck collar. A motion sensor () and position sensor () may be disposed with the one or more biometric sensors to sense movement and position, and the electronics () configured to account for error in a signal produced by the one or more biometric sensors due to movement sensed by the motion sensor or position sensed by the position sensor. The electronics () may log patient activity and body position.

Provided is an analyte monitoring device having a housing, the device comprising: a plurality of needles, each having a tip, a retracted position, a position wherein the tip is extended from the housing a distance adapted to pierce skin; an electrically or spring powered needle pushing apparatus movable to separately engage each of the needles to move each from the retracted position to the extended position; an energy source located within the housing; a plurality of analysis sites comprising an analysis preparation, each adapted to receive liquid from the needles to wet the analysis preparation; one or more light sources adapted to direct light at the analysis sites; one or more light detectors adapted to receive light from the analysis sites; and a processor.

Analyte monitor

A device detects the location of objects in an environment by receiving an optical image and converting the optical image of the lost object into a color digital image. The device employs software to perform an analysis of the color digital image to detect the location of the one or more objects in the environment by using color and shape characteristics of the one or more objects. The software uses a range of the visible portion of the color space uniquely identified for the type of object in that environment and identifies those pixels in the color digital image that may be possible targets. Intensity of background and object size are used to exclude pixels as possible target objects.

Method and imager for detecting the location of objects

A device for delivering fluid, such as insulin for example, to a patient. The device includes a flow path having an exit port assembly adapted to connect to a transcutaneous patient access tool, and a reservoir connected to the exit port assembly. The device also includes a flow restriction system having an air removal filter communicating with the flow path and allowing air to exit the flow path and preventing fluid from exiting the flow path, and a flow restrictor positioned within the flow path between the air removal filter and the exit port assembly. Among other features and advantages, the flow restriction system of the present invention allows the flow path of the fluid delivery device to be purged of air, or 'primed' prior to operation, such that desired volumes of fluid can be accurately delivered by the device.

Flow restriction system and method for patient infusion device

A device for delivering fluid to a patient including an exit port assembly adapted to connect to a transcutaneous patient access tool, a flow path extending from the exit port assembly, and a flow condition sensor assembly. The sensor assembly includes a resilient diaphragm having a first surface positioned against the flow path, a chamber wall defining a sensor chamber adjacent a second surface of the diaphragm, and at least one sensor arranged to provide a threshold signal when the second surface of the diaphragm expands into the chamber in response to at least one predetermined fluid flow condition occurring in the flow path. The sensor includes a first electrode secured on the diaphragm, a second electrode positioned in a fixed location with respect to the first electrode, and an impedance meter connected between the electrodes.

A fluid distribution system has a microfluidic device that has a main channel with a plurality of branches extending therefrom. The main channel has a length. The main channel and the branches are coupled through a plurality of apertures with aperture diameters. The aperture diameters progressively increase along said length of the main channel to allow fluid to more evenly be distributed to the branches.
