An ostomy appliance includes a cover layer provided separately from a body side member (BSM). The BSM includes a proximal surface with adhesive provided for attaching the body side member to skin of a user, a releasable material provided distal to the adhesive, and a stoma receiving opening formed through the body side member and the releasable material. When the cover layer is attached to the body side member, the cover layer forms a portion of a distal surface of the body side member. Openings in the cover layer allow the releasable material to move to the distal surface of the body side member.

An accessory separate from and attachable to an adhesive body side member of an ostomy appliance is disclosed. The accessory includes a proximal surface that is attachable to a distal side of the adhesive body side member and a distal surface opposite from and connected to the proximal surface. The accessory has a pocket formed between the proximal surface and the distal surface of the accessory, with an opening formed to communicate with the pocket, and manipulable material disposed in the pocket. The manipulable material is adapted to be displaced out of the pocket through the opening and is adapted to absorb stoma moisture to prevent the stoma moisture from reaching an adhesive of the adhesive body side member to effectively increase a wear time of the adhesive body side member.

We disclose a method of providing a user or a healthcare worker with an ostomy device that is shape-adjustable to conform to skin around a stoma associated with a bulge or a hernia. The ostomy device is configured to invert from a storage configuration to a use configuration by inverting a substantially convex shape of a proximal side of a base plate to a substantially concave shape and stabilizing the base plate in the use configuration by contacting the inner radial periphery of the reinforcing structure with a distal surface of the base plate.

Disclosed is a complementary-material element () attachable to a base plate () of an ostomy appliance () and including a first entity () and a second entity (). The entities comprise different material compositions. A system for anal and/or stomal irrigation comprises a reservoir () for an irrigating liquid, a catheter () comprising a catheter tip for insertion into the rectum or stoma of a user and for expelling of the irrigating liquid from the catheter tip, and a tubing system () providing a conduit for the irrigating liquid between the reservoir and the catheter tip. A pump () is provided to pump the irrigating liquid from the reservoir to the catheter tip, and a control system () controls a flow condition, such as the amount of liquid expelled at the catheter tip. A sensor () determines a measure of pressure in at least one first predetermined position in the tubing system and/or the catheter during operation of the pump, on the basis of which the flow condition is estimated. The control system is configured to control the pumping operation of the pump in response to the measure of pressure.

A system for anal irrigation is provided. The system includes a container, an anal probe, tubes and an electrical pump. The container has two configurations, a first collapsed configuration and a second expanded configuration. In the first configuration, a cavity for storing tubes and the anal probe is provided. In the second configuration, the container has a cavity for containing irrigation liquid. The pump and valves is stored in a cavity towards the bottom of the container.
