Porous matrices and membrane matrices comprising sulfonated aryl sulfonate polymers are prepared from a sulfonated aryl sulfonate polymer solution which is made by dissolving an aryl sulfonate polymer, and optionally a polymer other than aryl sulfonate, in a sulfonating acid solvent such as sulfuric acid. The solutions are then cast as wet films from which the matrices are coagulated. By controlling composition and process parameters, hydrophilic matrices of varying morphology are produced.

Sulfonated aryl sulfonate matrices and method of production

The present invention is directed to composite filters and methods for preparing same. More specifically, it is directed to filter laminates of multiple discrete layers of material bonded together, with at least one of the layers being an asymmetric membrane.

Laminates of asymmetric membranes

The present invention relates to filtration media having both hydrophobic (water-repellent) properties. The filtration media are produced using a fluorothermoplastic material, such as a terpolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride, and hexafluoropropylene. The invention also relates to methods of preparing such filtration media using casting solution phase inversion.

Hydrophobic membrane materials for filter venting applications

The present invention is directed to composite filters and methods for preparing same. More specifically, it is directed to filter laminates of multiple discreet layers of material bonded together, with at least one of the layers being an asymmetric membrane.

The present invention relates to oleophobic filtration media including polymeric membranes and other substrates that are coated with polymerized substituted or unsubstituted para-xylene. A method of coating such substrates with polymerized substituted or unsubstituted para-xylene is also provided. The coated substrates possess both hydrophobic (water repellent) and oleophobic (oil repellent) properties.

Oleophobic coated membranes

Oleophobic and hydrophobic filters for filter venting applications are made by forming a polydimethylsiloxane coating on the surface of a filtration substrate. The filters have high water penetration pressures and high air permeabilities. The coatings are formed by polymerizing vinyl terminated siloxane with a crosslinker such as hydrosilicone in the presence of a catalyst. Alternatively, the coatings can be formed by heat curing after exposing the substrate to methyl silicone and crosslinking at high temperature.

Oleophobic filter materials for filter venting applications

The present invention relates to hydrophilic membranes containing blends of polysulfone polymers and sulfonated polymers or copolymers, where the sulfonated polymers or copolymers are sulfonated before blending with the polysulfone polymer. The invention also relates to methods of preparing the hydrophilic membranes. In one aspect of the invention, the membranes are formed by casting a mixed polymer solution comprising a sulfone polymer and a copolymer of a sulfonated polymer and a sulfone polymer and quenching the film in an aqueous bath to produce a coagulated membrane. The membranes can be ultrafiltration or microfiltration membranes, symmetric or asymmetric.
