A communication system and method are provided for discovering wireless client devices within a local area network. A discovery message may be broadcast to a plurality of access points via a select access point to discover an access point. A response may be received from the discovered access point that may report a presence of a particular wireless client device located within a coverage area of the discovered access point. A status of the particular wireless client device may then be requested from the discovered access point.

Communication system and method for discovering end-points that utilize a link layer connection in a wired/wireless local area network

An adaptive voltage scaling system includes first and second devices. Each of the first and second devices includes at least one master serial interface port and at least one slave serial interface port. The first device is operatively coupled to a voltage regulator, and the slave serial interface port associated with the second device is operatively coupled to the master serial interface port associated with the first device. The first device controls the voltage regulator based on information obtained from the first and second devices using the master serial interface port associated with the first device and the slave serial interface port associated with the second device. The first and second devices receive voltage from the voltage regulator. A corresponding method and computer-readable medium are also disclosed.

Adaptive voltage scaling using a serial interface

Aspects of the invention may provide a system and method for access point aggregation and resiliency in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network. Access point aggregation and resiliency may include determining one or more available switch ports having a capability to handle a first access point group, the first access point group having a first default switch port. One or more available switch ports may be provisioned to provide service to the first access point group. Information may be communicated between the first default switch port and/or any of the provisioned switch ports, while maintaining client status and connection information. Available switch ports may be selected from a reserved pool of available switch ports and upon abatement of a need to utilize the provisioned switch ports, the provisioned switch ports may be returned to the reserved pool of available switch ports.

System and method for access point (AP) aggregation and resiliency in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network

Multiple encryption in a multi-band multi-protocol hybrid wired/wireless network may include receiving on a first PHY channel of an access point, a request for initiation of a communication session from an originating access device. The received request may be acknowledged on the first PHY channel and the originating access device may be authenticated on a second PHY channel. One or more encryption/decryption keys may be provided for use during the communication session. A third PHY channel or the first or second PHY channels may host the communication session. The authentication information may be requested and delivered to the originating access device via a second PHY channel. The encryption key may be delivered to the originating access device via the first PHY channel or the second PHY channel. Additionally, information may be tunneled over a virtual channel established between the originating and a terminating access device.

Method and system for providing multiple encryption in a multi-band multi-protocol hybrid wired/wireless network

A wireless station within a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) includes a processor, a radio and a directional antenna. The radio gathers participatory data based on communications involving the wireless station and non-participatory data based on communications the wireless station listens to, but does not participate in. The processor produces an operational report based on the participatory data and the non-participatory data and provides the operational report to the WLAN. The processor further alters a gain vector of the directional antenna based on instructions received from the WLAN in response to the operational report.

Wireless access point service coverage area management

A process of controlling a flow of data in a wireless network providing wireless access to the wireless network by wireless devices is disclosed. Data is received from a wireless device by a network device, through one access point of a plurality of access points in communication with the network device, indicating a client identifier for the wireless device. The client identifier is forwarded to an authentication server and the network device mediated authentication of the wireless device with the authentication server. Thereafter, data packets received from portions of the wireless network and from the plurality of access points are evaluated and the received data packets are passed to portions of the wireless network and to the plurality of access points, based on the evaluation of the received data packets. In addition, the network device periodically polls for a status of the wireless device from the access point.

Enterprise wireless local area network switching system

An integrated circuit having a monitor circuit for monitoring timing in a critical path having a target timing margin is disclosed. The monitor circuit has two shift registers, one of which includes a delay element that applies a delay value to a received signal. The inputs to the two shift registers form a signal input node capable of receiving an input signal. The monitor circuit also has a logic gate having an output and at least two inputs, each input connected to a corresponding one of the outputs of the two shift registers. The output of the logic gate indicates whether the target timing margin is satisfied or not satisfied.

A method for bandwidth management in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network may include receiving from a first access point and/or a first switch, a first messaging protocol message for establishing a communication session. Responsive to the first messaging protocol message, an available communication bandwidth is determined for at least a portion of the hybrid wired/wireless local area network and bandwidth is allocated to accommodate the communication session. The first access point may be notified of the allocation of bandwidth using a second messaging protocol message. The first messaging protocol message may be received by a second switch and/or a second access point. Bandwidth usage information may be requested from the first access point and/or the first switch using the first messaging protocol message.

Method and system for providing an intelligent switch for bandwidth management in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network

Aspects of the invention may be found in a system and method for hardware acceleration in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network. In according with various embodiments of the invention, hardware acceleration may comprise creating at least one policy to be distributed among one or more of a plurality of access point groups. At least one policy may be associated with a particular one of the access point groups. The associated policy may be identified and distributed to one or more access points in an access point group. The distribution of the policy may be conditioned on the occurrence of an event. An identified policy may be distributed to a particular access point group upon occurrence of the event.

System and method for hardware acceleration in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network

A method for managing resources in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network (LAN) includes reserving bandwidth for a network device. The reserving of the bandwidth is based, at least in part, on a device hierarchy established within the hybrid LAN. The hierarchy is utilized for one or more of bandwidth reservation, bandwidth sharing, and/or bandwidth allocation within the hybrid LAN. In response to a communication session associated with the network device, at least a portion of the reserved bandwidth may be allocated for use by the network device. The at least a portion of the reserved bandwidth may be used during the communication session. A request for bandwidth may be received by one or both of the network device and/or a second network device.

Method and system for providing bandwidth allocation and sharing in a hybrid wired/wireless network

Aspects of the invention provide a communication system and method in a hybrid wired/wireless local area network. At least one discovery message may be broadcasted to at least one of a plurality of access points. A response may be received from one or more of the access points. The response may report a presence of at least one access device located within a coverage area of one or more of the access points. A status of at least one access device located within a coverage area of one or more of the access points may be requested from the access points.

Operational speed of an integrated circuit chip is measured using one or more speed measurement elements, such as ring oscillators, disposed at various regions of the chip. Each speed measuring element can include several ring oscillators, each corresponding to a different technology threshold voltage. The speed measurement data collected from the speed measurement elements can be used to determine on-chip variation (OCV). Circuitry either on the chip itself or, alternatively, external to the chip can adjust a chip operational parameter, such as core voltage or clock speed, in response to the speed measurement data. Speed measurement data can be read out of the chip through JTAG pins or an interface to an external host.

A Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) is operated in conjunction with a wired Local Area Network (wired LAN) to service a premises, e.g., a campus setting. The wired LAN services the wired communication needs of the premises and serves as the wired backbone of the WLAN. A plurality of Wireless Access Points (WAPs) of the WLAN couple to the wired backbone and are serviced by the LAN. With this shared structure, wired network components, e.g., multi-layer switches, manage the operation of WLAN components, i.e., WAPs. Such management includes ensuring that the WAPs provide sufficient bandwidth to support wireless packetized voice communications.
