A self-stabilizing pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet that utilizes a semi-ridge retaining strap, a ratcheting retaining buckle, and an elastic guide cord on the lower penetrating end of a wedge-shaped bladder. A rigid baseplate is supported by a waist belt having a width identical with the waist belt so that the baseplate provides a stable base for positioning the bladder over a selected area of the patient's abdomen. The air bladder is affixed to the underside of the baseplate, which is initially kept in a deflated condition collapsed against the baseplate, and includes an elastic cord, such as a shock cord, configured to bias the tip of the wedge or 'V' shaped bladder in the middle of the baseplate. An air source connected to the air bladder causes inflation and penetration of the lower edge of the bladder into the patient's abdomen thereby causing aorta occlusion.

Self-stabilizing portable pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet with ratcheting tensioner

A stylet assembly for performing a nasal endotracheal intubation of a patient is disclosed. The stylet assembly includes an elongated tube as a stylet for the intubation defining a longitudinal axis, a proximal end, and a distal end for entering the trachea of the patient. The elongated tube includes (i) a rigid section adjacent the proximal end, (ii) an articulation section adjacent the distal end and adapted to curve into the patient's trachea upon actuation, and (iii) a flexible section between the rigid section and the articulation section, the flexible section being adapted to curve to an internal shape of at least one of the patient's nose, nasal cavity, pharynx, and larynx during nasal intubation. The stylet assembly can further include an actuator housing, a control wire for actuating the articulating section, and a hand grip for maneuvering the stylet assembly.

Endotracheal intubation device

A sheath for an endotracheal intubation device includes an elongate flexible portion defining a closed conduit and an adjacent open channel defined by opposing lips for releasably retaining an endotracheal tube, and a rigid portion extending from a distal end of the flexible portion, the flexible portion including a gap in one of the lips adjacent the rigid portion to expose an edge of the rigid portion, the gap allowing the endotracheal tube to be pinched between the edge of the rigid portion and a lip of the flexible portion to enhance retention of the tube when an articulated arm disposed in the closed conduit is curved, and facilitate release of the tube when the arm is not curved.

Disposable sheath for an endotracheal intubation device

A detachable stylet assembly for endotracheal intubation of a patient is disclosed. The stylet comprises an elongated tube defining: a longitudinal axis, a proximal end for detachably mounting the stylet to a hand grip, and a distal end for entering the trachea of the patient. The tube comprises an articulation section adjacent the distal end adapted to curve into the trachea upon actuation. An actuator housing is mounted on and adjacent to the proximal end of the tube. An actuating assembly is constructed inside the actuator housing having connection means for engaging the hand grip. A control wire is mounted within the actuator housing and connected to the actuating assembly. The control wire extends through the tube to the distal end of the tube and is adapted to curve the articulation section upon actuation. The hand grip comprises a base handle and a trigger for manual actuation of the actuator assembly. The trigger comprises finger grooves for convenient gripping. The base handle comprises a hand stop to prevent slippage.

A portable pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet for occlusion of the abdominal descending aorta to restrict blood supply to a non-compressible arterial hemorrhage in or below the inguinal region is presented. The tourniquet includes an adjustable waist strap for securing it around the abdomen of a patient and a windlass rod connected to the waist strap to selectively tighten the strap as needed to tightly secure it to patient. A directed air bladder is mounted to the waist strap having a generally 'V' shaped construction and is expanded for exerting directed pressure against the abdomen. Upon inflation of the air bladder and adjustment of the windlass, occlusion or restriction of blood flow through the abdominal descending aorta will occur which will achieve cessation of hemorrhage in or below the inguinal area or achieve other therapeutic effects like elevated blood pressure to enhance CPR or blood flow control to the lower extremities.

Portable pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet with supplemental tensioning means

A portable pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet for occlusion of the abdominal descending aorta to restrict blood supply to a non-compressible arterial hemorrhage in the abdominal region. The tourniquet comprising an adjustable waist strap for securing around an abdomen; a directed air bladder mounted to the waist strap having a generally 'V' shaped construction operable between a deflated condition wherein the directed air bladder is collapsed, and an inflated condition wherein the directed air bladder is expanded for exerting pressure against the abdomen; and, an air source connected to the directed air bladder for operating the directed air bladder between the deflated condition and the inflated condition.

Portable pneumatic abdominal aortic tourniquet

A guide adapted for facilitating insertion of a medical device into the trachea of a patient is disclosed. The guide includes an integral curved-shaped member having at least a first leg at one end of the guide. The curved-shaped member essentially includes an outside curved side defining a concave groove. A first angle is defined on the first leg configured and dimensioned to allow for at least the first leg to pass through the mouth and into the trachea of the patient. Insertion of the guide into the trachea allows for elevation of the tongue and surrounding soft tissue of the patient thereby forming an air space that allows for passage of a medical device.

An endoscope device having a curvable portion and a pivotable lever enclosed within a housing connected to a spring means for returning the trigger and the control wire to a resting position once a user is finished squeezing the trigger. The pivotable lever defines first and second ends connected to an adjustment wire and a control wire respectively. When the trigger is squeezed, the curvable portion curves in a controlled manner from a fully straight configuration.

A device for facilitating fluid delivery to the trachea of a patient which comprises, a tubular housing adapted to be sealably mounted on an elongate element of an endoscope for examining the trachea of the patient and configured to mount an adapter for an endotracheal tube for intubating the patient over and around the elongate element, the housing having at least one inlet into a cavity inside the housing for supplying at least a first fluid and an outlet for delivering the first fluid between the elongate element and an inside wall of the endotracheal tube mounted on the adapter.
