An optical system in which a movable photosensitive member is exposed to a light image of an original document. The optical system includes a light source which illuminates a screen having at least two adjacent spaced rows of opaque dots. Movement of the photosensitive member controls activation of the light source. The light source is activated periodically and responds to the photosensitive member moving a distance corresponding to the distance between adjacent rows of opaque dots on the screen.

Half-tone imaging system

An electrophotographic printing machine in which a screen interposed in the path of the light image modulates the light image irradiating the charged portion of a photoconductive member. The screen comprises a plurality of sets of light filtering regions. Each set of light filtering regions is substantially complementary in color to the color of the filtered light image, and rotated through a pre-selected angle relative to the next adjacent set of light filtering regions.

Multi-color screen for electrophotographic printing

An electrophotographic printing machine in which a latent image of an original document and a screen pattern are formed on a photoconductive member in superimposed registration with one another. The contrast of the screen pattern is regulated.

Variable contrast optical screening system

A half-tone screen in which a first and second set of grooves are inscribed in a transparent member. The grooves are arranged in a repetitive pattern with each groove from the first set being interposed between adjacent grooves of the second set, and the width of each groove of the first set being greater than the width of each groove of the second set.
