An isolation system and isolation device are disclosed. An illustrative isolation device is disclosed to include first circuitry having at least a first emitter and a first detector, second circuitry having at least a dual-purpose component, an isolation material configured to electrically isolate the first circuitry from the second circuitry, and switching circuitry adapted to connect the dual-purpose component to emit a first signal for detection by the first detector in a first configuration, and to receive a second signal from the first emitter in a second configuration.

Isolation device with half duplex channel

An isolation device includes a first integrated circuit in electrical communication with first circuitry. The first integrated circuit includes a first light emitter portion to emit a first optical signal based on first electrical signals received at the first integrated circuit from the first circuitry. The isolation device includes a second integrated circuit in electrical communication with second circuitry. The second integrated circuit includes a first light-sensitive area to convert the first optical signal into second electrical signals for communication to the second circuitry. The isolation device includes an isolation material between the first integrated circuit and the second integrated circuit to electrically isolate the first integrated circuit from the second integrated circuit and to pass the first optical signal from the first light emitter portion to the first light-sensitive area. The isolation device includes a first shield to shield the first light emitter portion from electromagnetic radiation.

Isolation devices with faraday shields

An amplification system, circuit, and method of performing offset cancellation are described. The disclosed amplification system is described as including a main amplifier circuit that receives an input signal and produces an output signal, a two-phase output sampler, and an offset correction circuit. The two-phase output sample samples the output signal of the main amplifier circuit in two different clock domains and determines a delta between the samples. The delta is used to assist the offset correction circuit in generating an offset correction feedback for the main amplifier circuit.

Auxiliary control of system offsets

Various embodiments of an optical proximity sensor and corresponding circuits and methods for measuring small AC signal currents arising from the detection of pulsed AC light signals emitted by a light emitter and reflected from an object to detected in the presence of larger ambient light DC current signals are disclosed. Circuits and corresponding methods are described that improve the dynamic range, sensitivity and detection range of an optical proximity sensor by cancelling the contributions of DC current signals arising from ambient light signals that otherwise would dominate the detected small AC signal currents. The DC signal cancellation occurs in a differential amplifier circuit before small AC signal currents are provided to an analog-to-digital converter. The circuits and methods may be implemented using conventional CMOS design and manufacturing techniques and processes.

Optical proximity sensor with improved dynamic range and sensitivity

A method and circuit is provided for reducing power consumption in a power transformer, typically incorporated into an electrical or electronic device such as a consumer device. In an embodiment, a detection/isolation circuit is coupled to an input of a power transformer/rectifier via a switching device. The switching device can be, for example, a solid state relay. The detection/isolation circuit is configured to sense the occurrence of no-load conditions in the power transformer and responsively disengage the power transformer from a coupled source of power (e.g., wall outlet) via the coupled switching device.
