A toner container for use in an image forming device includes a housing having a reservoir for storing toner, a paddle positioned within the reservoir, and a rotatable drive member positioned to push the paddle in a first rotational direction. The paddle is free to rotate ahead of the drive member in the first rotational direction. A magnet is rotatably coupled to one of the paddle and the drive member. A shield is rotatably coupled to the other of the paddle and the drive member such that the shield is movable between a blocking position for attenuating a magnetic field of the magnet to block detection of the magnetic field by a magnetic sensor and an unblocking position for unblocking the magnetic field of the magnet to permit detection of the magnetic field by the magnetic sensor based on a rotational position of the paddle relative to the drive member.

A nip separator for use in an image forming device includes a retainer configured to retain the nip separator on a first rotatable component with the nip separator being manually installable on the first rotatable component and rotatable about a rotational axis of the first rotatable component independent of the first rotatable component. An arm extends from the retainer to contact a second rotatable component to maintain separation between surfaces of the first and second rotatable components when the nip separator is in an engaged position. The nip separator is rotatable about the rotational axis from the engaged position to a disengaged position by contact between the arm and the second rotatable component upon rotation of the second rotatable component in an operative rotational direction thereof to permit continued operative contact between the surfaces of the first and second rotatable components when the nip separator is in the disengaged position.

A cleaner assembly includes a cleaner blade having a cleaning edge in contact with a photoconductive drum for removing toner therefrom. An elongated seal extends along a length of the cleaner blade such that an opening for capturing toner removed from the photoconductive drum is formed between the cleaning edge and the elongated seal. The elongated seal includes a tab projecting across a longitudinal end section of the cleaner blade such that the tab is positioned between the cleaning edge and the photoconductive drum preventing contact between the cleaning edge and the photoconductive drum. A fabric seal is positioned in a portion of the opening formed between the cleaning edge and the elongated seal at the longitudinal end section of the cleaner blade. At least a portion of the fabric seal is positioned inboard of the tab of the elongated seal along the length of the cleaner blade.

A sealing assembly according to one example embodiment includes a housing and an imaging component positioned on the housing. A seal has opposed first and second edges extending along a longitudinal dimension of the seal. A lateral dimension of the seal is perpendicular to the longitudinal dimension and extends in a direction from the first edge to the second edge. The seal is attached to the housing along the first edge and contacts the imaging component along the second edge. Upon attachment to the housing, the seal is elastically deformed from an unassembled state in which the second edge has a first profile that varies in the lateral dimension along the longitudinal dimension to an assembled state in which the second edge is deformed relative to the first profile to a second profile having less variation in the lateral dimension along the longitudinal dimension than the first profile.

A developer unit for an electrophotographic image forming device includes a developer roll rotatably mounted on a housing. The developer roll includes a shaft defining a rotational axis and a roll body cylindrically disposed around the shaft to form an outer circumferential surface of the developer roll. An end seal includes a curved rotary seal portion sandwiched between a pocket portion of the housing and the outer circumferential surface of the developer roll, such that an outer circumferential surface of the curved rotary seal portion contacts the pocket portion of the housing and an inner circumferential surface of the curved rotary seal portion contacts the outer circumferential surface of the developer roll. The pocket portion of the housing includes protrusions that contact the outer circumferential surface of the curved rotary seal portion to restrict movement of the end seal along an operative rotational direction of the developer roll.

A developer unit for an electrophotographic image forming device includes a developer roll rotatably mounted on a housing. The developer roll includes a roll body cylindrically disposed around a shaft and forming an outer circumferential surface of the developer roll. An axial end of the roll body includes an undercut forming a hollow region in the axial end of the roll body. An elastomeric end seal has a curved rotary seal portion that is sandwiched between a portion of the housing and the outer circumferential surface of the developer roll at the axial end of the developer roll. An interference between the curved rotary seal portion of the end seal and the outer circumferential surface of the developer roll decreases along an axial dimension of the developer roll in a direction from an axially outboard edge of the end seal toward an axially inboard edge of the end seal.

An end seal for an electrophotographic image forming device according to one example embodiment includes an elastomeric body having a blade seal portion for sealing against a rear surface of a doctor blade and a curved rotary seal portion that extends from a bottom end of the blade seal portion for sealing against an outer surface of a rotatable developer roll. The end seal includes a cutout in an inner axial side of the body positioned at a point where the rotary seal portion and the blade seal portion meet.

A nozzle plate for bonding to a chip for configuring a printhead of a printing device is disclosed. The chip comprises a plurality of energizing elements. The nozzle plate comprises a substrate layer, an adhesive layer and a plurality of nozzle holes perforated in the substrate layer and the adhesive layer. The each nozzle hole is capable of being associated with an energizing element of the plurality of energizing elements. The each nozzle hole comprises an asymmetric flow-feature configured by ablating at least a portion of a wall of the each nozzle hole prior to bonding the nozzle plate to the chip. The nozzle plate provides a substantially symmetrical flow-feature for the each nozzle hole on bonding to the chip.

An improved ink jet printhead for an ink jet printer and method therefor. The printhead includes a semiconductor substrate containing ink ejection devices. A thick film layer is attached to the substrate. A nozzle plate is attached to the thick film layer. The nozzle plate contains a plurality of ink ejection nozzles corresponding to the ink ejection devices. The printhead contains flow features having a height dimension and a width dimension formed therein for flow of ink to the plurality of ink ejection devices for ejection through the nozzles. At least a portion of the flow feature dimensions for at least one of the nozzles is formed in both the thick film layer and laser ablated in the nozzle plate, wherein the thick film layer contains at least 12% of the flow feature dimensions.

Micro-fluid ejection devices and method therefor

A micro-fluid ejection head structure having multiple arrays of fluid ejection actuators. The structure includes a semiconductor substrate having a first array of fluid ejection actuators for ejecting a first fluid therefrom, and a second array of fluid ejection actuators for ejecting a second fluid therefrom. The first array of fluid ejection actuators is disposed in a first location on the substrate, and the second array of fluid ejection actuators is disposed in a second location on the substrate. A thick film layer having a thickness is attached adjacent the semiconductor substrate. The thick film layer has fluid flow channels formed therein solely for the first array of fluid ejection actuators. A nozzle plate is attached to the thick film layer opposite the semiconductor substrate. The nozzle plate has fluid flow channels formed therein for both the first array of fluid ejection actuators and the second array of fluid ejection actuators.

The flow features can include a plurality of first channels, each of the plurality of first channels having a first length and positioned to fluidly communicate with an ink reservoir, and each of the plurality of first channels terminating in a first nozzle. The flow features can further include a plurality of second channels, each of the plurality of second channels having a second length greater than the first length and positioned to fluidly communicate with the ink reservoir, each of the plurality of second channels terminating in a second nozzle, each second nozzle being larger than each first nozzle.

Multiple drop-volume printhead apparatus and method

A connection module including a base including a forward set of points located in a forward plane and a rearward set of points located in a rearward plane, the forward and rearward planes defining a junction therebetween. The connection module further includes a cable including a plurality of contacts located thereon, each contact being shaped and located to engage one of the points. The connection module has a backing element including a piece of sheet-like material, a set of contact protrusions on the piece of material, and at least one stiffening element on the piece of material. Each of the contact protrusions is shaped and located to engage the cable and urge one of the contacts into engagement with one of the points. The stiffening element is generally aligned with the junction when the contact protrusions engage the cable and urge the contacts into engagement with one of the points.
