The attachment means for the TOBI of a gas turbine engine permits the use of the TOBI that is fabricated into a unitary unit. A spacer between the attaching flange of the TOBI, and a segmented ring overlying the flange allows the controlled flow of cooling air for reducing the thermal fight at the point of attachment.

Attachment for TOBI

A unitary structure for use in supplying cooling air to the upstream face of the first stage turbine disk and to the turbine blades on the disk, the structure being a single cast structure having attachment means thereon by which it may be secured to the inner ends of the turbine vanes and also to a part of the combustion chamber such as the inner combustion chamber wall. The structure also provides for attachment of a seal ring to the unitary structure and also includes the turning vanes or nozzles by which the cooling air is directed against the disk, these vanes being cast integrally with the remainder of the structure.

Cooling system for turbines

A turbine vane for use in a gas turbine engine having high turbine inlet temperatures is disclosed. Film cooling is provided at the leading edge of the vane airfoil by cooling air which flows through leading edge holes from a hollow cavity in the airfoil section. Film cooling air is also provided through wall holes along the suction and pressure sides of the airfoil. A U-shaped insert having a pressure leg and a suction leg is disposed within the hollow cavity to isolate the leading edge holes from the wall holes. When the cavity is pressurized, the legs are each urged against corresponding seal ribs which extend from the cavity wall to effectively isolate the leading edge holes.
