On-the-go fingerprint scanners and methods of capturing fingerprints on-the-go are disclosed. In some aspects, the on-the-go fingerprint scanner can include a scanning area and a beam break sensor disposed coincident to the scanning area such that the beam break sensor detects when an object passes through the scanning area. The scanner can also include at least one hand camera configured to capture a video image of the scanning area such that when the beam break sensor detects that an object has passed through the scanning area, the hand camera detects whether the object is a human hand and the location of any fingers on said hand, and at least one fingerprint camera configured to receive the location of any fingers within the scanning area from the hand camera and capture a high-resolution image of at least a portion of any of said fingers passing through the scanning area.

On-the go touchless fingerprint scanner

A method for stabilizing a load suspended with a rope, cable, net, sling or the like is disclosed. A beacon having a plurality of lights thereon may be attached to the load relative to the attachment point to the load, to an attachment point of the load or to the rope, cable sling or the like. A sensor on the lifting device senses the beacon and thus any swinging motion of the load, and a processor responsive to the sensor develops control signals that direct motion of the lifting device to dampen any swinging motion of the load.

Load tracking and stabilization

A contactless fingerprint acquisition and processing method, includes detecting and acquiring an object image, converting the object image into a fingerprint image and at least one of identifying and verifying the fingerprint image.

Contactless fingerprint acquisition and processing

A method for automatically guiding a lifting device on a lifting apparatus to a lifting point on a load is disclosed. A beacon is associated with the lifting point on the load has a plurality of lights arranged in a predetermined pattern. A sensor on the lifting apparatus detects the lights and provides signals to a processor. The processor calculates location of the lifting point, and develops signals that directs the lifting apparatus, or an operator of the lifting apparatus, to engage the lifting point with a lifter on the lifting apparatus. The load may then be lifted and moved.

Automated system for load acquisition and engagement

A real time digital correlation system is disclosed. Reference filters are constructed to define a region of filter space, and filters may be predictively selected based on a trajectory of selected filters through the filter space. In some instances, selected features of a spacecraft are selected for correlation to produce full 6DoF information. In other instances, portions of a correlation target are selected for correlation to produce 6DoF information. Digital filters of the invention are preferably 4-bit filters, and use unique mapping algorithms to map phase and intensity information from larger images, such as 12, 16, 32 and 64 bit images, to the 4-bit format.

Real time correlator system and method

A system for recognizing objects in images, and using that recognition to solve mission problems, such as identifying, tracking, and reporting movement of mobile military targets of interest. The system incorporates preprocessor and postprocessor with an image correlator, control systems, and feedback loops functioning with a real-time operating system. Tracking includes correlating patterns in an image stream so as to monitor image changes that represent changes of location, shape, trends, or other attributes. Reporting may entail visual displays of correlation results, or other data outputs suitable for steering gimbaled sensors, aiming weapons, or for other functions. The instant invention has application in numerous areas where recognition and tracking of patterns and trends are desired in imagery or in other two-dimensional representations of data.

System for processing and recognizing objects in images

Methods for using training images to define correlation strength surfaces about reference filters, permitting direct solution of position and orientation using images of a target object with only a few reference filters are disclosed. Correlations of selected reference filters with training images are used to develop expressions describing shapes of respective correlation surfaces at incremental changes relative to an aspect or range used for a filter. Correlations of target images with only a few reference filters may then be used to define target orientation and range in many real-world applications. A method for determining target object orientation and/or range based on interpolations, using results of correlations of a target image with composite filters having reduced sensitivities for different orientation axes, or range, is also disclosed. Techniques for using training images to create such composite filters are disclosed, as are extensions of methods to additional dimensions.

Remote measurement of object orientation and position

A range and bearing-finding system is disclosed. A diverging encoded laser beam is transmitted to a target, and a return reflection of the encoded beam received. The transmitted beam is sampled, and a plurality of predetermined time delays are applied to the sampled laser beam. The sampled laser beam with each of the predetermined time delays is correlated with the return reflection until a sampled laser beam having a time delay providing the highest correlation is found, the time delay indicating laser travel time to and from the target. Range is determined from this time delay. Bearing of the target is found by using a quadrant protector to receive the return reflection. The process for finding bearing uses the correlation process used to find range.

Wide angle laser range and bearing finder

A wide field-of-view optical system that may be used in determining a direction to a source of light, or for determine steering corrections to direct a vehicle toward a target, is disclosed. The optical system, which may be used as a seeker in a missile or other weapon, comprises a spherical ball lens truncated to provide one or more facets on which detectors may be mounted to measure relative intensities as a blur spot image of a source of light, which may be a reflection from a laser designated target, moves across the detectors, which may be individual elements in a quadrant detector. Narrow band filters may be used to suppress undesired wavelengths and enhance performance. The innovative design enables implementation of a wide field-of-view seeker with no moving parts. The spherical ball lens may be used directly as an aerodynamic surface without a need for a separate optical dome.

Faceted ball lens for semi-active laser seeker

A programmable multifunction electronic camera uses a commercial pixel digital energy sensor to generate detector element signal digital data normally generated by expensive, custom designed, detector element energy sensors. The camera performs this function by retrieving pixel signal digital data and pixel location data from the pixel energy sensor, retrieving detector element energy sensor masks containing information regarding the size, shape, and location of detector elements included in the detector element energy sensors, mapping the pixels included in the pixel energy sensor to the energy sensor masks to identify pixels that can be combined to create 'virtual detector elements' having the same size, shape, and configuration as the detector elements in the detector element energy sensors, and combining the pixel signal digital data associated with the mapped pixels to generate the detector digital data. The camera can be programmed with a number of different energy sensor masks and mapping algorithms.

Programmable multifunction electronic camera

A system and method for measuring the dimensions of moving packages includes a computer system connected to a position tracking system and a slice measurement system. The computer system uses the position tracking system to generate a series of position measurements of the packages as they move through the slice measurement system and uses the slice measurement system to generate a cross sectional slice of the packages at each measured positioned. The computer system then uses the cross sectional slice information to determine the height and width of the packages and uses the position measurements to determine the length of the packages.

System and method for measuring the dimensions of moving packages

A method of detecting chemical agents present in a sample by utilizing a ctrometer to produce an output spectrum which is transmitted to an optical correlator which processes the output spectra of the spectrometer and identifies particular chemical species present in the sample by utilizing a detector and indicator arrangement.

A method of easily detecting a predetermined star pattern by directing imng means in the general direction of the pattern desired to be detected and imaging the star pattern onto a matched filter of a correlator to produce and output that is used to signal a computer to enable the computer to calculate the location of the predetermined star pattern in the field of view.

A hybrid optical correlator which uses a Fourier plane detector to cause adjustment of an image of an object in scale and orientation so that a matched filter can provide a correlation of the object independent of scale and orientation.

Remote measurement of an angle is very difficult if the angle to be measu is in the plane containing the observer. This is accomplished by using cylindrical lenses and patterns which provide a binary coded image to the remote observer. The binary code represents the angle in the plane containing the observer. Use of microscreens allows the system to be very thin, and even curved around a curved surface, such as a missile. It continuously records an angle of a missile during test flight.
