An illumination system for a scanner according to one example embodiment includes an array of visible light emitting diodes including a red, a blue and a green light emitting diode and an ultraviolet light emitting device configured to emit light predominantly in the ultraviolet region of the electromagnetic spectrum. During a scan sequence of the red, blue and green light emitting diodes, at least one of the visible light emitting diodes and the ultraviolet light emitting device are positioned to simultaneously illuminate an object being scanned. In one form, during the sequence, the blue light emitting diode and the ultraviolet light emitting device are simultaneously illuminated while in another the red light emitting diode and the ultraviolet light emitting device are simultaneously illuminated.

A relationship is then identified between the monitor and the scanner. This relationship is then used as the basis to determine a relationship between the scanner and the monitor. Compensation is made for errors and the relationship is further developed. Finally, a scanner RGB to printer CMYK lookup table is built.

A method of printing with an ink jet printer includes providing a printhead having a plurality of first nozzles with a first size and a plurality of second nozzles with a second size larger than the first size. The first nozzles and the second nozzles are alternatingly disposed in a vertical direction. Print data corresponding to first columns of pixel locations is provided. The print data includes for each pixel location in the first columns both a respective large dot print datum and a respective small dot print datum. One of the respective large dot print datum and the respective small dot print datum is printed at a first pixel location of the corresponding pixel locations in the first columns. Second columns of pixel locations interleaved with the first columns of pixel locations are provided. The other of the respective large dot print datum and the respective small dot print datum not printed in said first pixel location of the first columns is printed at a first pixel location of the second columns of pixel locations.

A method of mapping an input color gamut of an input device onto an output color gamut of an output device includes establishing a threshold chroma value in the input color gamut. A method of transforming two color domains of an original target color profile in a universal color space includes receiving information characterizing the original target color profile. A non-flesh-tone domain chroma boost curve is constructed. The non-flesh-tone domain chroma boost curve is applied to the original target color profile to generate an intermediate target color profile. A flesh-tone domain boundary in the intermediate target color profile is determined. A flesh-tone domain chroma boost curve is constructed. A new target color profile is established by applying the flesh-tone domain chroma boost curve to the intermediate target color profile.
