There is provided a quartz glass article having a surface treated with novel coating materials which provides a reduced chemistry, wherein the quartz glass surface having a reduced chemistry upon exposure to melted silicon or similarly corrosive environments, forms crystalline structures covering at least 30% of the coated surface of the quartz glass crucible. Said crystalline covered surface provides a more stable surface of contact with the silicon melt and the growth of single crystal silicon. In one embodiment of the invention, the coating material comprises at least a methyl group for providing at least one of a hydrogenated and a methylated surface on the coated surface, forming rosette structures, or other crystalline morphologies covering at last 80% of the coated surface. In another embodiment of the invention, the coating material is selected from at least one of an amine, an organosilane halogen and mixtures thereof.

A process for producing a synthetic quartz glass powder which is substantially free of carbon contaminant, for reduced bubble density and improved stability of articles made from the synthetic quartz glass during fusion molding by maintaining the synthetic silica powder in an oxidizing environment, e.g., an atmosphere comprising at least 3 vol. % ozone at a temperature of less than 1400&#xb0; C., causing carbon containing compounds to be reduced to less than 10 ppm.

Process for treating synthetic silica powder and synthetic silica powder treated thereof

The invention relates generally to a method which utilizes iodine as a broad spectrum microbicide wherein the active agent may be applied in nasal passages in the manner of a decongestant type nose spray. The spray is intended particularly for human use. It is to be applied in the event of known or suspected exposure of the individual to common cold virus, flu, or other infective microbial agents including for example, bacteria, viruses, rickettsia, and even mold and fungus. The active agent is based on an iodine solution and may also contain one or more of the following: sodium hypochlorite solution, or a solution of chlorine or hypochlorites plus a salt of chloride, bromide or iodide. Alternatively, the solution may further contain iodine and a bromine solution, or a solution of iodine, bromine plus a salt of chloride, bromide or iodide such as sodium chloride, zinc chloride, sodium bromide, zinc bromide, sodium iodide or zinc iodide. The iodine, chlorine, hypochlorites, bromine, chloride, bromide, and iodide may originally come from inorganic compounds or organic compounds, which are then dissolved in the water. Further, the solution may contain glycerin or another moisturizing or wetting agent for the nasal mucosa since the halogens or halides may be dehydrating or drying. Zinc gluconate or a zinc halide such as zinc chloride, zinc bromide or zinc iodide may also be included to further render the nasal mucosa more slippery and thus render it more difficult for invading microbes to colonize the area.

Treatment of colds, flu like infections and other general nasal based infections with a solution containing iodine and other broad spectrum microbicides and a method for its use

The invention provides for a nasal spray which is an aqueous solution containing a broad spectrum microbicide which may be applied in nasal passages in the manner of a decongestant type nose spray in the event of known or suspected exposure of the individual to common cold virus, flu, or other infective microbial agents. The solution contains active agents which are based on a chlorine or hypochlorite solution, or a solution of chlorine or hypochlorite plus a salt of chloride, bromide or iodide. Alternatively, the solution may contain a bromine solution, or a solution of bromine plus a salt of chloride, bromide or iodide such as sodium chloride, zinc chloride, sodium bromide, zinc bromide, sodium iodide or zinc iodide. The chlorine, hypochlorite, bromine, chloride, bromide, and iodide may originally come from inorganic compounds or organic compounds, which are then dissolved in the water. Further, the solution may contain glycerin or another moisturizing or wetting agent for the nasal mucosa. Zinc gluconate or a zinc halide such as zinc chloride, zinc bromide or zinc iodide may also be included.

Nasal solution containing a broad spectrum microbicide and a method for its use

An apparatus for manufacture of quartz crucibles comprising a hollow mold having a bottom wall portion and a side wall portion and defining a hollow space therein. The walls of the mold include a plurality of openings to facilitate gas passage therethrough. A rotatable support of the mold is provided to rotate the mold about a vertical axis. A vacuum is applied through the walls of the mold to draw quartz particles against the walls and remove gas. A shroud surrounds at least a portion of the hollow mold; at least one gas inlet positioned to provide a gas to a space between the shroud and the mold. A housing overlaps at least a portion of the shroud and the hollow mold. At least one gas outlet is positioned to exhaust gas which may exit the space between the shroud and the mold. Alternatively, or in addition to the outlet, a space may be provided between the housing (hood) and the shroud to facilitate gas discharge. In manufacturing a crucible in this apparatus, the gas flow can be balanced so the in-flow rate of control gas is in excess of the exhaust rate from the controlled atmosphere via the outlet or space.

Apparatus for silica crucible manufacture

A method for quartz crucible formation wherein an at least substantially enclosed chamber surrounds a crucible mold. The atmosphere in the chamber is controlled to include a desired gas or combination of gases at a positive pressure. The positive pressure is achieved because the total outflow of gas is less than the total inflow of gas. A heat source is initiated to melt a quartz material lining the mold once the desired atmosphere is achieved, and the quartz material is fused.

Method for quartz crucible fabrication

A monolithic ball structure made of resilient material and consisting of two equal diameter spherical sections connected by a neck portion of reduced diameter. The neck portion is defined by a segment of a surface generated by the revolution of a planar arc about an axis lying in its plane. The axis in this particular structure coincides with the common axis connecting the center points of the two aforementioned spheres. The radius of the arc is one-eighth of the diameter of the sphere in one particular embodiment thereof. The resilient material has a Durometer hardness value in the range of 40 shore A to 60 shore A.

An inventory control board includes a housing in which a series of front-to-rear spaced transparent sections are provided. A series of slots are formed in the housing beneath the transparent sections, and a series of shafts corresponding in number to the number of slots are rotatably mounted in the housing each such shaft being laterally spaced from and in alignment with one of the slots. Each shaft carries a pair of drums for rotation therewith, and windows are located in the housing above each of the drums to afford visual access to indicia carried by the drums.
