A selectively compliant chuck for assembling tiles into larger LCD displays facilitates alignment between a cover plate and a tile. A linear clutch is positioned between the tile chuck and the tile chuck carrier. This allows each chuck to float in the axis perpendicular to the tile's mating surface. The chuck has freedom to move linearly in this axis, and allows for pitch and roll motion as well. This floating connection can be turned on or off at will. Thus, a tile attached to the chuck can be lowered to intimately contact a cover plate and the chuck will compliantly move for high mating tolerances. Thereafter, the clutch can be locked to fix the chuck in it's current position. In this manner, the tile can be raised so that an adhesive can be applied to the cover plate. The tile can then be lowered back over the adhesive with the clutch locked and alignment maintained.

An apparatus and system for wet/dry and other processing of manufactured articles. Belts mounted on pulleys provide support while minimally contacting article surfaces for maximum exposure to chemical, radiation, or other wet/dry processing treatments.

Parts processing system with notched conveyor belt transport

An improved conveyor is provided which has a plurality of rotatable shafts with a plurality of first disc rollers mounted on each of the shafts for rotation therewith. The first disc rollers are located at a first location on each of the shafts and are spaced from each other at at least a distance X on the shaft. The disc rollers on adjacent shafts are spaced from the disc rollers on each adjacent shaft and are adapted to support and transport a flat product having a width of at least about 2X. A plurality of second rollers are mounted on each of the shafts for rotation therewith at a second location on the shafts. Preferably, each of the second rollers has a length of at least about 2X and preferably a circumference substantially equal to that of the disc rollers. Thus, the second rollers are adapted to support a flat panel product having a width less than about 2X. The conveyor can support and transport both wide and narrow panels and, in some instances, can support both wide and narrow panels at the same time. In one embodiment, the second rollers are provided with edge guides to track the narrow panels thereon.
