Both water intrusion and wind noise issues are addressed with an audio porting assembly including a single frame () having a speaker cavity () and a microphone cavity () formed therein. An opening () formed within the frame () between the speaker cavity () and the microphone cavity () provides a path for indirect porting from the speaker cavity into the microphone cavity. A unitarily molded membrane () provides a seal over the frame ().

Audio porting assembly

A test signal is generated in a device having a sound tube and a microphone. An acoustic wave is generated in the sound tube from the test signal. The acoustic wave is received at the microphone to estimate an acoustic pressure response. The length of the sound tube is estimated by a frequency of at least one peak in the acoustic pressure response.

In a device having a sound tube and a receiver, a test signal is generated to apply to the receiver. An outgoing acoustic wave is created at the receiver from the test signal. A reflected acoustic wave is received at the receiver, wherein the reflected acoustic wave is delayed in time from the outgoing acoustic wave. A difference in time is measured between the outgoing acoustic wave and the reflected acoustic wave. The difference in time is used to estimate a length of the sound tube.

In a device having a sound tube and a receiver, a test signal is generated to apply to the receiver. An electrical impedance of the receiver is measured, and a length of the sound tube is estimated by a shift in frequency of at least one of a maximum and a minimum in the electrical impedance.
