A material for solid polymer electrolyte, made of a polyether polymer having a moisture content in the range of 400 to 5,000 ppm by weight. A formed solid polymer electrolyte, which is made by mixing the material for solid polymer electrolyte together with an electrolyte salt compound soluble in the polyether polymer, has good ionic conductivity and high mechanical strength. A polyether polymer having a moisture content not larger than 0.04% by weight and a toluene-insoluble content not larger than 5% by weight. This polyether polymer gives a formed solid polymer electrolyte having a smooth surface.

A process for extruding a thin positive electrode sheet having at least 40%/wt of solid content for a lithium polymer battery through a single or twin screw extruder is disclosed as well as a positive electrode sheet produced therefrom. A mixture of active cathodic intercalation material, lithium salt and electronic conductive material is mixed with a polymer of the polyether family in a ratio of at least 40% of total weight into the mixing chamber of an extrusion machine and extruded through a classical sheet die into a thin cathode sheet or film onto a substrate in sheet form.

Positive electrode films for alkali metal polymer batteries and method for making same

An apparatus for and method of manufacturing lithium or lithium alloy anodes for electrochemical cells by a lamination process wherein a lithium or lithium alloy sheet is reduced into a thin lithium or lithium alloy film. The method and apparatus provide adjustments of the profile defined by the meeting surfaces of a pair of working rollers to compensate for thermal dilation of the working rollers or to compensate for irregular thickness of the lithium or lithium alloy sheet to control the shape and profile of the lithium or lithium alloy film being laminated.

A method of manufacturing lithium or lithium alloy anodes for electrochemical cells by an extrusion process wherein a lithium or lithium alloy ingot is formed into a thin sheet. The method is adapted to extrude thin sheet having a width exceeding the diameter of the lithium or lithium alloy ingot and enables the extrusion of lithium or lithium alloy thin sheets with more than one lithium or lithium alloy ingot. The invention also provides a die assembly adapted to allow adjustment and fine tuning of a die aperture while the extrusion process of a lithium or lithium alloy ingot is being carried out.

Process and apparatus for manufacturing lithium or lithium alloy thin sheets for electrochemical cells

A current collector for polymer electrolyte thin film electrochemical cells and an electrochemical generator is disclosed. The current collector comprises a polymer substrate support film having a thickness of between 1 and 15 microns; a conductive metallic layer having a thickness of less than 3 microns, coated by metal vapor deposition onto at least one surface of the polymer substrate film; and a protective metal or metal oxide layer deposited onto the conductive metallic layer, having a thickness of between 5 and 500 nanometer and being electronically conductive.
