A fully enclosed carton for carrying heavy loads with a reinforcement insert for the handle apertures located in the top end flaps of the carton. The paperboard reinforcing insert may be extended as a bridge across the top panel of the carton to prevent tearing of the handle apertures in the top end flaps and also tearing in the top panel of the carton when carrying a heavy load. The carton may have one or more dispensers in the top panel which may extend into an adjoining side panel. Multiple tear lines may be formed for the dispenser flap in the insert that extends across the top panel to permit easy access to the containers, such as bottles, in the carton. The paperboard reinforcing insert may have a larger aperture than the handle aperture in each top end flap to adjust for any imprecision in the alignment of the paperboard insert in forming the carton sleeve from the paperboard blank. When the paperboard insert extends across the top panel and one or more dispensers are formed in the top panel, multiple tear lines may be used to form the flaps in the insert to compensate for any imprecision in the insertion of the insert that extends across the top panel into the carton sleeve when it is being formed.

Handle and top handle reinforcement for a paperboard carton

A glued three piece folding basket carrier which has two partitions for dividing the carrier into six cells with each partition being constructed of a different material than used to construct the outside basket carrier. Each partition is glued to a handle panel and a divider flap on the end of the basket carrier and a to a side wall to form a bottle cell with walls that are perpendicular to the divider between the two sides of the carrier and which are also formed as part of the partition.

A carton with an improved dispenser at one end of the carton which preserves the integrity of the carton when the carton is opened by permitting a bottom end flap attached to the bottom panel to remain in place and also a portion of each side end flap that is adjacent to the bottom end flap. This dispenser may also provide a safety net for the first container that is automatically dispensed when the carton is opened. This carton also has a unique transverse racetrack handle.

Carton with an improved dispensing feature in combination with a unique handle

A container formed by wrapping a slotted flexible sheet about rigid end panels having projections that extend through the slots. The projections include stacking projections which engage recesses in the end panels of adjacent stacked containers and support projections at the corners. The support projections engage each other when the containers are stacked to provide resistance to lateral loading. At least one end of the flexible sheet terminates in the top panel and engages a wedge-shaped projection on the end panels to lock that end of the sheet in place. The other end may be similarly locked in place or may overlap the first end and be held in place by a tab and slot arrangement. Alternatively, the other end portion of the sheet may include a lid which is held in place by mechanical tabs, while intermediate edges spaced from the end engage the wedge-shaped projections.

Container adapted for stacking

An article carrier which permits ice to be added to the carrier after removing the top to cool the contents. The carrier is formed from a paperboard blank having a waterproof interior surface. The end and side panels are connected by gusset panels, the end portions of which are adapted to be in nonadhered face-to-face relationship. When the top panel of the carrier is removed, these portions of the gusset panels are relaxed, allowing the side and end panels to pivot out about their foldable connection to the bottom panel for a limited distance to expand the interior of the carrier while maintaining the carrier in watertight condition.

Expandable watertight article carrier

A carrier containing a plurality of layers of articles, such as beverage cans, arranged in stacked end-to-end fashion. The carrier is fully enclosed and is formed with overlapping top panel flaps which produce an area of double thickness between handle openings in the flaps. A reinforcing sheet on the underside of the top panel in the double layer area protects against tearing, while stress relief lines in the form of score lines extending from the ends of the handle opening to the corners of the carrier provide for distribution of lifting and carrying stresses. A separator sheet preventing direct contact between stacked articles extends between layers and may include distortable areas aligned with the articles. Downward pressure on the upper layer causes the bottom of an article to force the distortable area into a recess in the top of the next lower article.

Carrier for stacked articles

A carrier containing a plurality of layers of articles arranged in stacked end-to-end fashion. The carrier is fully enclosed and is formed with overlapping top panel flaps which produce an area of double thickness between handle openings in the flaps. A reinforcing sheet on the underside of the top panel in the double layer area protects against tearing, while stress relief lines in the form of score lines extending from the ends of the handle opening to the corners of the carrier provide for distribution of lifting and carrying stresses.

A basket-style carrier having a top panel for enclosing the carrier. The top panel comprises flaps foldably connected to the side panels which contain openings through which a top portion of articles packaged in the carrier extend. The flaps also include at least one fold line extending parallel to the side panels, allowing the flaps to be folded over so that their free ends extend to and contact the center partition of the carrier. This biases the top panel flap edges against the center partition and an edge of the opening against the underside of flanges or other transversely extending projections of the articles packaged in the carrier. The handle in a center partition may be designed as a three-ply reinforced handle.

Enclosed basket-style carrier

A paperboard clip-type carrier especially suited for carrying beverage cans. The top panel comprises overlapped inner and outer top panel flaps which provide double thickness in the handle area. Support edges in reinforcement sections connected to the bottom panel and the side panels engage the underside of the can chimes to support them, and stress relief score lines are provided to distribute stresses from the support edges through the reinforcement sections. The side panel has cutouts through which the can chimes can protrude, allowing the side panels to be positioned tightly against the cans to increase the strength of the carrier.
