A valve () is disclosed which is operable to automatically transition from a closed state to an open state in response to heat. The valve () includes: a cover () having at least one opening () therein; at least one adhesive layer () for sealing a perimeter of the cover () to a wall () of a food cooking package () on which the valve () is positioned; and, a deformable element () that shrinks in response to being exposed to heat, the deformable element () having a perimeter which is sealed by an adhesive when the valve () is in its closed state, wherein shrinking of the deformable element () pulls the perimeter of the deformable element () away from a site where it is sealed by the adhesive, thereby breaking the seal about the perimeter of the deformable element () and transitioning the valve () from its closed state to its open state.

Heat and/or steam activated valve and method therefor

A valve () is provided for sealing an evacuation port () in a port area () of a wall structure () of a container. The valve () comprises a casing () having a shell portion () which is deformable from an open condition, whereat the shell portion () forms a chamber () over the port area (), and a closed condition, whereat the shell portion () contacts the port area (). When the shell portion () is in its open condition, gas exits from the chamber () through gas-releasing holes () in the casing (). When the shell portion () is deformed to its closed condition, a port-sealing adhesive () adheres to the port area () to thereby seal the evacuation port ().

Evacuatable container

A surface treatment for a protective plastic film and/or laminate is disclosed. Suitably, the surface treatment includes coating a major surface of the plastic film or laminate with a curable coating formulation wherein the one or more of the coating ingredients are diffused or migrated at least partially into the plastic film or plastic laminate. The migration of coating ingredients creates a gradual transition layer from the plastic film to the coating layer and leads to unique properties. Optionally, the surface treated plastic film is laminated to a release liner coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) to form the aforementioned laminate.

A method of making a plurality of flexible containers () comprising the steps of manufacturing a plurality of bag structures (), separately manufacturing a plurality of valves (), aligning the valves () with openings () in the bag structures (), and securing the aligned valves () to the bag structures (). Each valve () comprises a vent layer () which is pervious with respect to expected gasses and a sealed passageway is formed between the vent layer () and the container () when the valve () is secured to the bag structure ().

Food bag release valve

A tamper monitoring article and system, and an associated method of making, installing and using the article and system. The article has an elongate body portion. The body portion has a first end portion that adheres to a second end portion, if present, or to a substrate. The article also includes a pathway structure that runs along or throughout the body portion and can conduct energy, such as light or electricity, along its length. A monitor communicates with the pathway structure and detects a change in the energy being conducted thereby. A change in the energy is indicative of a change in a conductive property of the pathway structure caused by, for example, manipulation of the body portion and the pathway structure that is disposed therein or thereon. The monitor can then signal, or respond to a request signal, and provide information that such manipulation has occurred.

Tamper monitoring article, system and method

The invention relates to an in-mold labeling method, and to molded plastic articles having an in-mold label as described herein. In one embodiment of the invention, the in-mold label film comprises: (A) a polymer facestock having a printable upper surface and a lower surface, (B) a print layer having an upper surface and a lower surface wherein the lower surface of the print layer is in contact with and adhered to the upper surface of the facestock, and (C) an adhesive layer having an upper surface and a lower surface wherein the lower surface is in contact with and adhered to the upper surface of the print layer.

In-mold labeling method

Livestock identification tag assembly comprising: (a) a heat seal laminate comprising: (i) a facestock having an upper surface and a lower surface; (ii) a heat-activatable adhesive layer having an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein the upper surface of the heat-activatable adhesion layer is adhered to the lower surface of said facestock; (iii) an ink or graphics layer adhered to the lower surface of said heat-activatable layer; and (b) a flexible polymeric substrate; wherein the lower surface of the heat-activatable adhesive of the laminate is adhered to the substrate. In one embodiment, the ink or graphics layer is positioned between said heat-activatable adhesive layer and said facestock.

Livestock security tag assembly

This invention relates to a heat-sealable laminate, comprising: a facestock having an upper surface and a lower surface; a heat-activatable first adhesive layer underlying the lower surface of the facestock; and a second adhesive layer overlying the upper surface of the facestock, with the proviso that the laminate is characterized by the absence of either an adhesion promoting layer or an abrasion-resistant transparent coating layer positioned between the upper surface of the facestock and the second adhesive layer. These heat-sealable laminates may be used in providing pictorial and/or print designs or messages (e.g., labels, decals, etc.) that can be adhered to substrates (e.g., metal, plastic, leather, paper or textile substrates) such as automotive interior surfaces, hard plastic component parts, consumer durable goods, and the like.
