An apparatus includes a bracket mountable to a surface and including multiple separated fingers extending at least partially transverse to gravitational pull when the bracket is mounted to the surface. A connector is adapted to be received by at least one of the fingers at multiple locations relative to the bracket such that the connector overlaps the at least one finger relative to the gravitational pull, the connector providing a lip directed at least partially transverse to the gravitational pull when the connector is received by the bracket and the bracket is mounted to the surface. A positioner is adapted to adjustably receive an elongated member and to be coupled to the connector overlying a portion of the lip.

A safety platform attachment (10) for ladders is shown having an expanded treaded platform (24) and mirror image torque arms (12, 14) for attachment thereto. Torque arms (12, 14) each have upper and lower ladder rung receiving seats (34, 38; 36, 40) and a plurality of automatically self adjusting locks (42) which hold the safety platform attachment securely in place on the ladder and prevent accidental dislodgement.

A string closure which comprises two body members joined together to define a central cavity for encapsulating portions of the string and openings at either end defining a longitudinal axis. A pair of walls adjacent at least one opening extends transverse to the axis, and those walls are spaced axially from each other a distance which is less than the diameter of the string and which is sufficiently small to squeeze the string therebetween to prevent separation of the string and closure. The walls extend from opposite body members.

The safety shield is designed to be energy absorbing and is constructed of a non-rigid self-supporting energy-absorbing material and is adapted to engage across the side walls of a children's car seat. The lateral sides of the shield are provided with depending flanges which envelop the upstanding side walls of the car seat as well as with snap-lock protuberances for engaging the side walls at top and bottom. Also, the shield is provided with a face guard which extends from the shield and with padding which envelops the face guard and the inside of the shield. A gripping means is provided on the front of the shield to securely receive and grip a retaining belt, such as an automobile seat belt, to hold the seat and shield in place against lateral movement and pivoting.

A drinking cup and cover with a straw assembly seated in the cover; a fixed straw piece extends from the cover to the bottom of the cup and a movable straw piece of the assembly extends upwardly from a hole in the cup's cover and is pivotally and sealably attached thereto so as to permit pivoting of the straw with respect to the cover.

A one-piece pacifier for an infant comprising a shield having a nipple extending from one side and a handle extending from the other, the lower portion and sides of the shield being curved away from the nipple to present a larger area where the shield might rest against an infant's chin and face thereby reducing irritation, and the handle being angled downwardly towards the curved portion of the shield so as to deflect toward the shield rather than push the nipple towards the infant's throat when force, such as when the infant presses its face against a mattress, is applied to the handle side of the pacifier.

A weighted self-righting training cup comprises a lower hemispherical portion having a flat to define the cup bottom and an upper portion, the ratio of the diameter of the cup at the intersection of the upper and lower portions to the effective height of the upper portion determining the minimum amount of weight necessary to make the cup consistently self-right when tipped over while being filled or partially filled with liquid.

End closure means comprises a latch member having a latch surface, a two part body member defining a latch member receiving recess between the two parts, a hinge connecting the two parts together on one side of the body member, and a pair of mutually engageable headed posts and passages respectively on the two parts and spaced from the latch member recess on the other side of the body member from the hinge. The body member and latch member are at the ends of a self-supporting molded plastic string on which are mounted a plurality of beads.
