An example apparatus includes a memory and a call session controller. The memory is to store a first public user identifier in association with a first nomadic service designator and a first operating mode designator, and to store a second public user identifier in association with a second nomadic service designator and a second operating mode designator. The call session controller is to determine whether a first call using the first public user identifier is eligible to be established based on the first nomadic service designator and the first operating mode designator, and determine whether a second call using the second public user identifier is eligible to be established based on the second nomadic service designator and based on the second operating mode designator.

Systems and methods for location management and emergency support for a voice over internet protocol device

Efficient processing and/or routing of emergency calls in an IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) for VoIP (Voice over IP) subscribers can be enabled. In one aspect, an E911 profile is generated, for example, by an application server, for each VoIP subscriber based in part on current location information associated with the subscriber, such as, the subscriber's IP address. The E911 profile is pushed to the HSS (Home Subscriber Server) of the IMS. The E911 profile can then be stored in the HSS and can be queried by an E-CSCF (Emergency Call Session Control Function) during emergency call processing. Moreover, when an emergency call is received from the subscriber, the E-CSCF can retrieve the E911 profile associated with the subscriber from the HSS and route the call to an appropriate PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) based on an analysis of the information in the E911 profile.

Method to implement E911 services in IMS (IP multimedia subsystem)

In a particular embodiment a system and method for processing a call in a Voice over internet protocol (VoIP) network are disclosed. The method includes receiving the call associated with a private identifier (PRID) at a server, classifying a call location based on the PRID and sending the call from the server to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) with a call back number associated with the PRID. The system includes a first server interface for receiving a message containing a PRID associated with the call, a second server interface to access the data base for searching for the PRID in the data structure; a third server interface to receive an output from the database indicating whether a PRID has been found in the data structure; and a fourth server interface to send the call to a PSAP.

System and method for location management and emergency support for a voice over internet protocol device

Methods and apparatus for analyzing, collecting, and presenting data in a communication network are disclosed. An example method includes analyzing collected data to generate gateway metrics representative of a user experience of a user-initiated communication within a network, the network comprising network elements, the gateway metrics comprising at least one of a number of termination attempts for a DS0 channel, a number of rejected attempts for the DS0 channel, a number of terminations answered for the DS0 channel, a number of attempts for a hunt group, a number of rejected attempts for the hunt group, or a number of terminations answered for the hunt group; determining an average upper transaction time per customer based on the collected data; and presenting the gateway metrics in a plurality of tabular views corresponding to service area levels, the views presenting performance data representing the average upper transaction times of the service area levels.

Methods and apparatus for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data in a communication network

An example method stores a nomadic service designator and an operating mode designator in association with a public user identifier. The nomadic service designator indicates whether an IP device is allowed to access VoIP services from different network locations. The public user identifier facilitates establishing a call with the IP device. The operating mode designator indicates when the IP device is in a suspended operating mode and an unrestricted mode. The suspended operating mode restricts the IP device to a subset of communication services associated with a service subscription of the IP device, and to a 911 service. The unrestricted operating mode is based on a registered geographic location associated with the IP device being a current geographic location of the IP device, and is based on a service provider being able to provide an E911 service including a location-identification service at the current geographic location of the IP device.

A method and an apparatus for providing mobility for a Voice over Internet Protocol Service (VoIP) provided on packet networks are disclosed. For example, the method receives a register request from a user endpoint device and retrieves an Access Point-address parameter from a contact header in the register request. The method then determines a physical location of an access point device in accordance with the Access Point-address parameter and updates location information for the user endpoint device in accordance with the physical location of the access point device.

Method and apparatus for providing mobility for a voice over internet protocol service

Example systems and methods to manage location information for emergency services support of an internet protocol ('IP') communication device are disclosed. A disclosed example method involves storing first and second geographic location information in a first list of geographic location information associated with an internet protocol device. The first list is stored at a service provider server. At least a partial copy of the first list is communicated from the service provider server to the internet protocol device for storing as a second list of geographic location information in the internet protocol device.

A disclosed application docking module (ADM) for use in a communication network includes a message monitor, an application monitor, and an anomaly handler. The message monitor monitors messages exchanged between a monitored application server and a session control layer resource of the network and the application monitor monitors a heartbeat of the application server. Based on the monitoring, the module determines when the application server is in an anomaly state. The anomaly state may indicate abnormal or otherwise unexpected application server messaging activity and/or an unexpected heartbeat status. The ADM processes application server messages on behalf of the application server when the application server is operating in an anomaly state. The ADM may, for example, block messages outgoing from the application server and process messages incoming to the application server by redirecting messages, returning messages to their sender, or generating an error code.

An example method comprises receiving a registration request at an edge device of a voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) system from a user device, selecting at the edge device a communication service providing device from a list of devices configured to provide communication services, sending the registration request to the selected communication service providing device, and receiving a registration response from the selected communication service providing device.
