A more efficient cooling system for densely packed electronic components for use in an out-of-doors equipment enclosure. An array of cooling assemblies are placed on heat generating components mounted to printed circuit boards mounted in enclosure racks. Each board has a manifold for intake and exhaust of refrigerant, and larger rack manifolds are substituted for rails and are attached to a backplane. A hybrid package including a ceramic hybrid power module and an attached array of cooling assemblies provide even more density of components and improved cooling.

Cooling system for densely packed electronic components

A microscale chip cooling system for a heat dissipating item, such as Intel's Pentium brand microprocessor. The system includes a 40 millimeter by 40 millimeter thermally insulated housing including a base and a cover. The system also includes a thermally conductive evaporator. The evaporator is adapted to be attached to a heat source such as the microprocessor. The cover includes inlet and outlet ports and the base includes a capillary passage. A refrigerant or heat transferring fluid is pumped or past through the passage before making a sudden expansion in an expansion zone just before passing to an evaporator chamber. Pool and flow boiling and forced convection may occur in the evaporator chamber as heat is transferred from the microprocessor through the thermally conductive evaporator to the refrigerant. The refrigerant then returns to a compressor to repeat the cycle. The system is extremely small and very efficient.

Small scale chip cooler assembly

A process for making inner and outer ducts for a simple but effective plastic heat exchanger by a simple blow molding or thermoforming technique. Seals are formed by providing initially closed inner ducts which are stacked on one another and the end portions of the inner ducts are placed in a mold. A castable adhesive sealant is placed in the mold and around the stacked inner ducts. After curing, the mold and the stacked inner ducts are separated and a portion of the stack and a portion of the seal material are cut and removed. Thereafter, the outer duct is positioned about the stacked inner ducts so that two different flow paths are formed. Instead of molding the seal, a preformed seal may be press fitted to the stack of inner ducts.

Process for making a plastic counterflow heat exchanger

A plastic heat exchanger which is simple and inexpensive. The heat exchanger includes an outer duct and a stack of inner ducts, the inner ducts for establishing a first flow path for cooling air or air to be cooled. Each inner duct includes end portions which are stackable upon one another and a middle portion which has a reduced dimension. A seal is placed about each stack of end portions and a second flow path for cooled air or cooling air is formed within the outer duct, between the seals and around the outside of the middle portions of the inner ducts.

Plastic counterflow heat exchanger

A communication box assembly includes a base, a plurality of connector mounting inserts, insert mounting means for securing the inserts to an inner surface of the base juxtaposed in an aligned row in a plurality of insert mounting positions, the insert mounting means positioning the inserts with outer insert edges adjacent an outer edge of the base whereby operative ends of connectors carried by the inserts are positioned for convenient connection with office service cables, and a cover releasably attached to the base which is shaped to enclose the base and inserts.

Communication box assembly

A wall plate assembly includes a connector and a connector mounting insert and a wall plate having means to secure the wall plate to a standard box. The wall plate includes a platform formed adjacent a connector access window with a resilient latch means formed on the distal end of the platform for securing the insert to the wall plate.
